Because it is a way of expressing many things, the question is: What is meant by "momentary"? Thus, the sound of "momentary" also applies to emptiness, as in "container momentary," which is understood as empty. For the one without activity, it is "Devadatta momentary," understood as being free from activity. For the end of time, it is said, "He did it in a moment." For that which is destroyed immediately upon its own appearance, because there is no interval, it is immediate. Because it is both immediate and destructive, it is immediately destructive. Because it exists here in the manner of a staff-bearer, it is immediately destructive. It means that it does not remain after arising. According to the view that it remains at another time, because destruction exists after its own appearance, the word "immediately" is spoken to distinguish it. Because the self-appearance of that kind which can be expressed by the sound of "momentary" exists here, conditioned phenomena are momentary. If it is not other, it cannot be expressed. If asked in this way, the answer is, it is not because of seeing, like the body of a bubble. If it is said in this way, it will appear in detail. Not all conditioned phenomena are accepted as momentary. What then? Mind and mental factors, and some that do not possess form, are momentary. Some that do not possess form are not momentary. The body is also not momentary, so it is not that it does not exist after its own appearance. Therefore, it is not contradictory for the body to move to another place, this is what is thought. Conditioned phenomena, because they will inevitably be destroyed. This means that having arising, one will not be confused about destruction, this is what is considered. If it is said again, conditioned phenomena will inevitably be destroyed, but not immediately after arising. If one wants destruction, one must acknowledge that it will inevitably be destroyed immediately after arising. Why? Because the destruction of things is without cause. If it has a cause, because it depends on the cause, if it does not change immediately after arising, then it is also without cause. If one does not want it to be destroyed immediately after arising, then it will not change later either, therefore conditioned phenomena will become indestructible.

Here, that is not so. Therefore, it should be acknowledged that conditioned phenomena are destroyed immediately upon arising. Asking for the cause of destruction itself, which is without cause, what is the purpose? It is meaningless. The very absence of action is stated as the reason for being without cause. The very absence of action is because it is inexpressible, and the very inexpressibility is the absence of entity, because it is merely the reversal of its own nature. If it is merely the arising of a thing, this will be explained in detail. It is not reasonable that it itself transforms into something else, because its own nature does not diminish. Therefore, it is not permissible for it itself to be dissimilar in characteristics from itself. The very dissimilarity in characteristics will not occur without otherness. The word 'etcetera' in 'wood etc. in contact with fire etc.' includes forms etc. The question is asked because destruction is not the object of the eye etc., 'for the time being, you wood etc.,' this will be explained in detail. If it exists, then they will not appear. If wood etc. do not perish from contact with fire, then they would be seen as before. But they are not seen. Therefore, it is certain that they perish from contact with fire. For the time being, this should be examined, this will be explained in detail. Because it needs to be examined, it is thought that this is not what is seen. Others have not arisen because contact with fire is contrary to their arising. For example, meeting with wind etc., this will be explained in detail. This is also established for the opponent. Sound and butter lamps are momentary, so they themselves perish, and the obstacles caused by contact with wind and hands have also not arisen, so they are not seen. It is not that sound and butter lamps are not seen because they perish from contact with wind and hands. Thus, the arising of seeing is not because they remain, but what is it? Because the previously arisen has perished, others arise. The visibility and invisibility of wood etc. should also be understood in the same way. Therefore, is destruction with cause or without cause?
