Thus it is said. Regarding the statement, "Good is permanent," the mention of "good" is to eliminate the obstruction that is not emptiness and individual examination. The mention of "permanent" is to refute good and conditioned phenomena. Therefore, there is no dharma more excellent than nirvana. In the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha, "Following the Characteristics," composed by the teacher Purna-vardhana, the chapter called "Karma" is the commentary on the fourth chapter of the Kosha. The detailed classification and analysis of all karmas have been completed. Therefore, this commentary briefly explains the subtle causal relationships. To show this connection, it is said, "From karma, various worlds arise." The reason for saying this is that, immediately following this chapter of the Kosha, this diverse world is not created subjectively according to the preconceived notions of Ishvara and others. So what is it? It is said to arise from karma because karmas become the cause for projecting existence and for accomplishment, and this is explained in detail. If someone asks: Those who are free from desire also perform virtuous actions through body, speech, and mind, but do their projections of existence and accomplishments not exist? Answer: We do not assert that there is merely the projection or accomplishment of karma. So what is it? Those karmas will also be accumulated due to subtle causal relationships, and as previously stated, those that possess the corresponding characteristics and classifications will definitely abide in maturation and be able to project existence. This is the conclusion. Therefore, in explaining dependent origination, only the subtle causal relationships are mentioned first, i.e., "Conditioned by ignorance, formations arise," because mentioning ignorance implies that all the main afflictions are grasped. If that is the case, then why will an Arhat not accomplish rebirth? Because they may also have good and bad karma, and have already projected many ripened results that can be projected. Therefore, it is said, "Without subtle causal relationships, rebirth cannot be accomplished." Although an Arhat has karma, because of the three

Because there is no subtle part of the mother, there is no cause for co-arising, therefore, rebirth cannot be achieved. It is said: Beings are like children, Riding the chariot of birth. Possessing the wheel of afflictions and karma, This is because one wheel of affliction is damaged, The wheel of karma does not turn. Because of this, it throws into existence, And the subtle part is the main cause for the accomplishment of existence, therefore, it should be known that the root of existence is the subtle part, because if it exists, it exists, and if it does not exist, it does not exist, and it is the first cause. The so-called "doing ten things" means producing ten results. The so-called "stabilizing the root" is because when afflictions arise, it is difficult to cut off their hearing, therefore it becomes stable, and the root is attainment. The so-called "making the continuum exist" is because it repeatedly produces other continuations. The so-called "accomplishing in the field" is to make the support compatible with arising, just as dry grass is compatible with fire. The so-called "accomplishing the same cause" is like an unclean leak, any close affliction that is the same cause of any affliction will produce it, for example, desire will produce shamelessness, agitation, and stinginess, while ignorance will collect dullness, sleep, and shamelessness. The so-called "realizing the existence of karma" is that karma itself is existence, the existence of karma, that is, the karma of rebirth, will produce it. The so-called "holding one's own retinue," its retinue is non-virtuous thought, holding it and making it compatible with arising, that is the meaning. The so-called "making the object completely confused" is to make wisdom decline, or not to fully understand as it is. Others say that the eye of wisdom is impaired by the darkness of the four inversions. The so-called "guiding the continuum of consciousness" is to guide the continuum of consciousness to the object or rebirth. The part of virtue

That which is moved by it is because it is independent of it. Others say: Because of complete exhaustion. To say "pervades for the sake of binding" means to pervade. How is it? It is by the principle of not exceeding the realm. By what realm's afflictions does one not exceed that realm? It is because the afflictions of the realm can nourish it. Here also, knowing that which can draw existence means manifesting the karma of existence. Therefore, it is established that the root of the nature of the five aggregates that closely grasps existence, the continuity of the main cause, is subtle. To speak in terms of number is six. As it is said: Attachment and anger, pride, ignorance, and views, and doubt. Because of attachment, others refer to anger and so on. It is said: In the sutras, it is said that anger arises from joy. Pride and so on should also be understood in the same way. Therefore, because of the absence of attachment, the uncontaminated and unequal realms do not turn to growth through the door of focusing on them. That will be explained below. Whatever thing is regarded as self and craving, by what is done by me, the other subtle things can also endure to grow, and so on. The word "and," the former is for completing the sentence, and the latter is for abbreviation. However, is the subtlety of desire's attachment the nature of attainment or the nature of another? To delight in it together with subtlety is a metaphor here that contradicts the sutras. It is not reasonable for them to be together with them. If it is said that the subtlety of desire's attachment is not possessed of subtlety, like the arising of form and so on, it contradicts the Abhidharma. The subtlety of desire's attachment is possessed of three faculties. The three faculties are pleasure, joy, and equanimity. Not possessing them is like arising and so on with pleasure and so on.
