Even if one transgresses precepts as light as leaves, one can still obtain the vows if one confesses. However, if one transgresses any of the four root precepts, which are as serious as the top of a palm tree, one cannot obtain the vows again. As it says in the scriptures, "Regarding what," etc., it should be explained as enjoying a mouthful of food and the space occupied by taking a step in a temple. The saying, "The bhikṣu is excluded from all enjoyments," means that the Buddha excludes bhikṣus from all common enjoyments, such as eating together. The meaning of "eliminate craving" is that craving is like grain, which makes things bad. The so-called "rotten wood" is rotten wood. The so-called "without essence" means that only grain has no essence. Here, the bhikṣu is similar to craving, etc., because he has the appearance of a bhikṣu and has no essence in himself. Just as craving, etc., make things with essence, such as grain, bad and thus remove them, so too does he make the bhikṣu sangha with essence bad and thus remove them. The one who ruins the path refers to a bhikṣu who has broken his vows, and the example given here refers to such a person. The so-called "king of the path" refers to those who are learning and those who are not learning. The guide is the Buddha. The one who lives for the path refers to a bhikṣu who has precepts, because they live for the path. The so-called "only the appearance remains" means that only the appearance of a bhikṣu remains. For example, a tree is called a tree even if only the shape of the tree remains, and a lake is called a lake even if only the shape of the lake remains after it has dried up. Because it resembles the nose and shape of a parrot, it is called a parrot's nose. A rotten seed, even if it is no longer a seed, is called a seed because only the shape of the seed remains. Because it is like a wheel, it is called a torch wheel. A dead being, even if it is no longer a being, is called a being because only the appearance of a being remains, and it is similar to this. The so-called "the teaching of discipline will disappear," the teaching of discipline refers to the end of a bhikṣu who has committed impure acts.

If it is only a transgression, and I have committed a downfall, feeling regret and without any intention to conceal it, one should go to the community of monks and confess it, and perform the act of penance in the manner described in the Vinaya. "At the moment when all downfalls occur" is explained extensively. We are at the moment when all downfalls occur. It is not said that only engaging in non-celibacy is a defeat, but what is it? It is the mind of concealment. As it is said: If the mind is not concealed by anyone, and one confesses the offense, even if it occurs at the very end, one will not become defeated by it. It is said. If one does not ordain again, it means that if one does not return the precepts, one should remove them from one's heart. Therefore, relying on that discipline, one does not ordain again. Because the lack of shame has severely damaged the discipline, one does not have the qualification to receive the discipline, therefore one does not ordain again, not relying on the object of a monk. In this way, it is explained extensively, therefore, even if one abandons the precepts, one does not ordain again. For that very reason, it is said that the lack of shame has severely damaged, etc. Others, unable to bear the decline of the Dharma, say: Because the Dharma has declined and there is no practice of the Vinaya, it is impossible to obtain a Vinaya that did not exist before, but what has already been obtained will not be abandoned. All the virtues belonging to meditation, meaning the nature of discipline, and all other collections of virtues that are not of the nature of form, are all included. Above or below, meaning if it arises above, one abandons the lower, and if it arises below, one abandons the upper. Completely falling away from absorption means that how one obtains the form and formless realms, one abandons them, because it depends on absorption. By abandoning the corresponding class, one will also abandon a little, meaning in the state of an ordinary being, corresponding to the decisive part, from the heat stage, etc., up to the intermediate forbearance. Here, abandoning the corresponding class is death. A little, meaning corresponding to the part of decline, just as one abandons desire, one also abandons it, because one has abandoned it like afflictions.
