If asked, why are some people not given (alcohol)? The answer is, because it is uncertain whether one will get drunk after drinking. That is to say, the amount of alcohol depends on the substance, time, nature, and physical condition; sometimes one gets drunk, and sometimes one does not. Therefore, drinking with a blade of grass is prohibited. Drinking with a blade of grass is prohibited in order to avoid faults, and doing so cuts off faults. The noble ones do not drink because they have a sense of shame. The sutra says that there are five powers: the power of faith, the power of diligence, the power of shame, the power of embarrassment, and the power of wisdom. Therefore, those who have a sense of shame do not drink. If asked, what is the reason why those who have a sense of shame should not drink? The answer is, because drinking makes people lose their memory. Drinking makes people forget what should and should not be done. If so, why not drink a little that does not cause memory loss? The answer is, one should not drink even a little, because like poison, its effect is uncertain. For example, at the right time, with the right nature and power, even a small amount of poison can sometimes cause death; similarly, drinking can also make one drunk. The sutra says 'wrongful conduct' because drinking is the root of carelessness, but not because drinking itself is a sin. Therefore, the sutra says 'regarding this,' referring to this precept, one should abandon the root of carelessness such as grain alcohol and mixed alcohol. The sutra says 'but not for others,' referring to abstaining from killing, etc. The reason for not explicitly stating this is because those (killing, etc.) are sins in themselves. The sutra explains in detail 'excessive indulgence,' the Blessed One said in the sutra: excessive indulgence and habituation to the root of carelessness such as grain alcohol and mixed alcohol, doing so many times will lead to the destruction of the body and falling into hell. 'Throwing' refers to what was not there before. 'Previously accumulated' is to obtain the opportunity to enter (the evil path), that is, the place of death.

It is for the sake of gaining entry (into the precepts). Grain alcohol refers to beverages mixed with food, such as porridge made from rice, etc. Beverages made from substances refer to those made from the juice of sugarcane trees, etc. "Those also" refers to the broader sense that grain alcohol and mixed alcohol sometimes do not become intoxicating substances; when is that? It is when one is young. Sometimes they lose the effect of being intoxicating substances; when is that? It is when they are very old and have become essence. Therefore, it is said "intoxicating," thinking that if it really intoxicates, then it is a fault. "Pea flour, yogurt, buckwheat, etc., also" refers to the fact that even if they are intoxicating, there is no fault for a layperson, so it is said "grain alcohol and mixed alcohol." "Because it is the place of all heedlessness" refers to the fact that it is the place, basis, and support of heedlessness of forgetting mindfulness, and all non-virtues such as killing, which is a synonym. Disregarding what should be done and focusing on what should not be done is heedlessness, and that is the cause of heedlessness. In the phrase "From where does one obtain one," the meaning of the question is from the preparation, the actual deed, and the completion of actions, as well as the bases that show sentient and non-sentient beings, and from the faults of nature and co-emergence. "From preparation, the actual deed, and the completion" refers to being connected to the paths of action, and from the preparation, the actual deed, and the completion of non-virtuous paths of action, according to the circumstances, the non-revealing form of individual liberation vows, which are the antidotes to them, arise. "Showing sentient and non-sentient beings" refers to the base. "From the faults of nature and co-emergence" refers to coming from actions, and this should be connected with each (fault). Faults by nature are also dependent on sentient beings and non-sentient beings, and co-emergent faults are also dependent on sentient beings and non-sentient beings. Among them, the sentient-dependent fault by nature is killing living beings, etc. The non-sentient-dependent fault by nature is
