If eye consciousness and so on are not produced through the doors of the eye and ear and so on, then how can the conceptual mind consciousness arise? Therefore, know that the mind consciousness is led by these, that is, it desires forms and so on. The expression "solely by the mind faculty" is explained in detail as follows: The mind consciousness that is led by the mind faculty does not desire objects other than the eye and so on. What then does it desire? It focuses on its own object, the dharma element. Therefore, think as described above. If that is the case, then the mind faculty will also be without error, and there will be no such fault. What does "not a person" mean? It means that it is not an object of direct knowledge or an object of complete knowledge. Therefore, this person is also not an object of discriminating consciousness. In reality, saying "this is not an object of direct knowledge or an object of complete knowledge," doesn't it mean that in reality it is not an object of discriminating consciousness? Therefore, it is said, "wisdom and discriminating consciousness are the same because they have the same object." Because it is said in the conclusion that "the object is the same," the eye and so on are also discriminating consciousness.

That which is called "thus" refers to this. And also, nothing whatsoever is apprehended. That which is called "thus" is also an example, namely, whoever cultivates emptiness, there is also nothing whatsoever. From "viewing as self" to "will become viewing as life," that is the first fault. That which is called "will become no different from the tirthikas" is the second fault. That which is called "will enter a mistaken path" is the third. From "this one's mind does not enter into emptiness" to "will not become liberated," that is the fourth. That which is called "this one's noble dharmas will not become completely purified" is the fifth. Well then, are those teachers also not buddhas? This is thinking that for those ones, the buddha's words are not reliable. That which is called "this is not the buddha's word" is that some think that these sutras are fabricated. That which is called "from all the schools" is from the Sarvastivada school and so forth. That which is not contradictory to the sutra is that which is not contradictory to the sutra pitaka. That which is called "also not contradictory to the nature of dharma" is the nature of dharma of dependent arising. That which is called "all dharmas are without self" is that those are also not the nature of self, and also in those there is no self, therefore all dharmas are without self. That which is called "relying on two" is from eye and form to mind and dharmas, that person is not a dharma. If it is said, "that which is without self is the skandhas, ayatanas, and dhatus," then one should not say "forms," and also one should not say "are not forms," because that is eliminated, because it is neither self nor other, therefore it will be abandoned. Therefore, all clinging to self is only on that which is without self, this is to show that there is no other. That which is called "if it is like that" appears extensively, namely, if at the time of recollection, only these five aggregates of appropriation are recollected, recollect, or will recollect, but not the person, then why is it said, "I in the past had such a form"? Because "I" is said, therefore it shows that it is said to a person. That person recollects in many ways like that

Regarding the matter of 'is,' you are indicating that you yourselves are expounding the Dharma, and therefore it is said that only this is refuge. If 'I' is spoken, then it would be a fault of falling into the view of the perishable aggregate. There are twenty aspects of the view of the perishable aggregate, namely, truly observing in accordance with 'I am form,' and 'I possess form,' 'Form is mine,' 'Form abides in me,' and from this point, it should be spoken up to consciousness in the same way. The statement 'like aggregates and continuum, etc.' means like aggregates and like continuum. The word 'etc.' includes collections, etc. Many things gathered in one moment are aggregates. Gathered in many moments are a continuum. The example of aggregates shows that a person is imputed on many dharmas. The example of a continuum shows that if there are many continuums of aggregates such as form and feeling, a person is imputed. How is this understood? The statement 'How is this understood?' means that in the Buddha's continuum, merely entrusting it to what is pleasing, the power of generating non-inverted wisdom exists, but it is not so in a person. It is said because the past, etc., were spoken. After extensively stating 'Perfect Buddhas who have passed away,' therefore, only the continuum of aggregates is Buddha, and not what is called a person. Monks, the burden has also been shown to you, and it is explained in detail: Monks, the burden has also been shown to you, as well as the bearer of the burden, the abandoner of the burden, and the carrier of the burden. Therefore, listen well and keep it in mind, it is said. What is the burden? It is the five aggregates of grasping. What is the bearer of the burden? It is the craving for rebirth, possessing joyful desire, and particularly delighting in that. What is the abandoner of the burden? It is the complete abandonment of the craving for rebirth, possessing joyful desire, and particularly delighting in that, as well as individually determining arising, as well as purification, as well as exhaustion and cessation, as well as pacification and disappearance. What is the carrier of the burden? It should be said to be a person, namely, the venerable one's name.
