Its entry is very large. Because that entry is very large, meditations arise in the realm of form. It is said thus: Those roots of virtue obtain an excellent self, because the basis of the habit of previous meditations continuously abides in accordance with its arising. Without scriptural authority, meditations arise, it is said. What is meant by 'by nature'? Some Sutra masters say that the part of the Dharma that enters is very large, and that due to the power of the habits of previous meditations, meditations arise without scriptural authority and are in accordance with it, that is the nature of Dharma, which is synonymous with nature and essence. The Vaibhashikas say that due to the power of the virtuous Dharma of previous meditation, hearing increases, and that which is in accordance with its arising is the nature of Dharma, which is the nature of Dharma that tends to manifest the fruit of the same cause as the previous life. What is meant by 'the aspects of the Dharmas are like this' refers to the aspects of the contaminated and uncontaminated, such as the realms, grounds, objects, and so on, as described. What is meant by 'destroying the scriptures is speaking' refers to those who speak the Sutras, Vinaya, and Abhidharma in terms of meaning and words, and those are the holders. What is meant by 'holding realization is accomplishing' refers to those who abide in the fruit, enter into it, and enter into the practice of the path, who are the very nature of the realization of the excellent Dharma, and who hold what is in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment. Others say that holding the scriptures is speaking and accomplishing, which is practice, because the basis of the scriptures without inversion is the practitioners. Speaking of realization is only accomplishing, and therefore as long as there is accomplishing, the excellent Dharma called realization will remain. What is meant by 'realization is like that' means it can last for a thousand years. What is meant by 'the scriptures last for a long time' means even after a thousand years, which is synonymous.

This side is seen as reasonable. Now, the teachings are not without Dharma, but because afflictions are able to enter, the Dharma of realization is no longer attainable. So, in this named treatise of the Abhidharma-kosa, is this Abhidharma, which explains the meaning of the Abhidharma, explained by the expressible or the expressed? Or does this explain the characteristics of the Abhidharma entering into wisdom, etc.? This is explained through the door of meaning, not through the door of words. However, the teachers of the Vaibhashika school, having truly understood the meaning of the Abhidharma of the Sugata, out of compassion for sentient beings, made this treatise in order to make the holy teachings last long. How is it known to be so? Therefore, the tenets of the Kashmir Vaibhashika school are extensively explained, called "Establishment of Tenets." The term "mostly" means that there are some things here that slightly exceed the tenets of Kashmir, such as shapes, images, past, and future. Among them, whatever is mistaken is my fault here. Because the Dharma is profound and it is difficult to find those who can transmit the scriptures, this is my fault. Those who have wisdom without attachment and obstruction to all that is to be known, and those who have gained wisdom from offering to the Buddha, they are the valid measure of the holy Dharma. The holy Dharma is the nature of having both scriptural and realized Dharma, which is the Buddha, the Bhagavan Buddhas, and the Buddha's sons, the holy Shariputra, etc., they are the valid measure, because they have understood all Dharmas, so they should be believed, this is the conclusion. "The guide, the eye of the world, has closed" means that the Bhagavan, who has abandoned the non-virtuous path and is determined to practice the virtuous path, has become the eye of the world by truly explaining the connection between cause and effect, and has entered into peace. "Many witnesses have been exhausted" means that the witnesses here are those who have personally seen the Buddha's teachings and possess both scriptural and realized Dharma, following the scriptural Dharma that does not contradict reason. "Exhausted" means impermanence.
