The meaning of "because it has been done" is that because that body of different destiny has not been applied to it, that is, to the correct reception. This meaning will be shown, that is, by whatever body is applied to the correct reception of vows, the vows arise in that very body, but not in other bodies. The meaning of "because of not remembering" is that other bodies do not remember those correctly received vows. Therefore, just as it is contrary to reason that vows arise in a dead person, so it is not present here, that is, just as one has the mental strength to correctly receive vows for half a month, etc., so one does not correctly receive vows for one day and one night, therefore, there is no contradiction in vows arising under one day and one night. The teacher Samantabhadra said: In the meaning of having taming, not all-knowing ones, with discrimination, cannot penetrate that reality, why? Among those vows, some are obtained by the white four karmas in the Sangha, and some are obtained by one person only with white, what is the cause of this? Therefore, it is shown how it is obtained in this way, and not in other ways, this is only the kind of vows that abide in this way, so one should not seek the cause in this. Moreover, did the Blessed One teach the one-day-one-night near-abiding because he saw that vows do not arise under one day and one night? Or does the saying "those with difficult-to-tame senses" arise? The teacher Samantabhadra said: If it is said that the one-day-one-night is taught in consideration of those with difficult-to-tame senses, then why not say a moment or a day or a night in consideration of those who are extremely difficult to tame? The meaning of "how can one examine it like that" is what was said after just saying "those with difficult-to-tame senses," etc. This shows that there is no scripture that vows arise even under one day and one night. The meaning of "after this, also in the arising of vows" is to speak extensively. How is it not contrary to reason? It is because the body is of different destiny, and because it is definitely applied to it, and because of remembering. The meaning of "because it has not been taught to anyone after this" is that the Vaibhashikas say: Not all householders are those with difficult-to-tame senses, therefore,

After this, there will be no more rebirths, so within a day and night, do not show it to anyone, know that." They say so. It is said that it is unacceptable in that way. The sound of 'it is said' is to indicate dissatisfaction. Entering the wrong path in between other times is not like that. Doing evil deeds with the intention of doing evil deeds in a day and night is neither a precept nor a non-precept. If that is the case, then wouldn't it also be impossible to obtain the precept of fasting if one enters it without wrong thoughts only for a day and night? Therefore, the precept of fasting is explained in detail. 'It does not exist as a substance' means that non-manifestation is virtuous. Thus, non-precept also does not exist as a substance; it is only thought of in the mind. 'The thought of doing evil' means the contemplation of doing evil. 'Having a subsequent connection' means having a habit; because it arises from that and has the habit of that cause, the virtuous mind also possesses that, and it is called possessing non-precept. 'Because that has not been abandoned' means because that has not been eliminated. That, which is the thought of doing evil, having a subsequent connection, not abandoning that means not completely giving up doing evil deeds from the depths of one's heart. 'Acquiring and accepting will not succeed' means speaking beforehand or equally. 'Having eight branches' means that only the eight branches should be properly accepted, because the abandonments are mutually dependent. Therefore, it is said that one can accept even after eating. Furthermore, if one eats before accepting, will a precept arise, or will it not? If it arises, then the precept, which depends on manifestation, will decline, and acceptance will also become meaningless. If it does not arise, then in that case, the single day and night itself will decline. Accepting from other than that will only become a virtuous practice, it is said. The word 'only' distinguishes it from the virtuous practice called precept, and this also only leads to a satisfactory result. 'For the sake of nourishing' means for the sake of expanding.
