Because of this. Therefore, why is it only said to abide happily in the present dharma? Therefore, it is said that it is not certain that one will abide happily in the next life. All Buddhas and others abide happily in the present dharma, but it is not certain that everyone will abide happily in the next life. Why? Because it does not exist for those who are completely decayed, arise upwards, and completely pass into nirvana. Therefore, it is only said to abide happily in the present dharma, not to abide happily in the next life. Some others say that it is to turn those who are attached to the present dharma away from the desire for sensual pleasure and to combine them with the happiness of meditation, because the happiness of the next life depends on the present dharma. They also say that it is said here that those who have previously entered into samadhi are later born there. Furthermore, since all meditations are abiding happily in the present dharma, why does the sutra only mention the first dhyana first? Because the yogi has transcended the many faults of the desire realm, his happiness is more completely satisfying to the mind, just as a person who is extremely tired and thirsty in the wilderness is satisfied by muddy water. It is also to indicate the happiness of all noble paths, because here there are all things that are in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment, as well as nine kinds of complete knowledge, and the path of fruition contained in the fruits of the ascetic life, and the antidotes to the three realms, therefore it is said that it is abiding happily in the present dharma. The text says: 'Eye's manifest consciousness sees change desire.' This is establishing the result as the cause, the manifest consciousness of the divine eye is not the practice of meditation, what is it? It is the result of practicing meditation. It is called knowing and seeing, where knowing is wisdom similar to consciousness, because it can distinguish and think that these beings have evil deeds of the body and so on. Seeing is similar to eye consciousness, because there is no conceptualization. The text says: 'Intelligence arising from combination distinguishes change.' Those are the three realms, acting in the desire realm.

Starting from the non-revealing precepts of the Vaibhāṣika school, contemplating impurity, breathing, mindfulness of the elements, etc., as well as various kinds of learning, thinking, and arising from meditation, being without outflows, the gate of liberation, transcendent samādhi, the superknowledges of the exhaustion of outflows, etc. These dharmas will cause wisdom to manifestly increase. The term "arising from combination" is to specifically distinguish what is obtained from the place of birth. Here, because it is in accordance with samādhi, the qualities arising from combination are all approximately called the practice of samādhi. Like the vajra-like samādhi of the fourth dhyāna, whatever follows and is in accordance with it is called the practice of samādhi that causes the exhaustion of outflows. The term "approaching oneself" means that the approaching of oneself is approaching oneself, which is synonymous with "deliberately creating oneself." Therefore, it is said that only the fourth dhyāna is taught, because the Buddha, the Bhagavan, only relied on the fourth dhyāna to realize the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. The term "focusing on immeasurable beings" means that their object of focus is immeasurable beings. Others say that they are immeasurable because they accomplish immeasurable merit and because the desirable results are immeasurable. For the antidote to malice, etc. That is to say, the sutra says that if one cultivates loving-kindness, becomes accustomed to it, and practices it many times, one will abandon malice. Compassion will abandon harming, joy will abandon displeasure, and equanimity will abandon desire and malice. Therefore, there are only four, no more and no less. The antidote to the desire for color is contemplating impurity, which means turning away by observing things like decomposition and redness. The antidote to sexual desire is equanimity, which means that sexual desire is an excessive imputation of attractive characteristics to beings.

Because wisdom is the forerunner. Equanimity is understanding beings merely without clinging to the characteristics of suffering and unpleasantness. Therefore, the antidote to lust is equanimity. This is what the Vaibhashikas say. Here it is explained in detail that lust arises from color and form, reverence, and touch. Unpleasantness also enters in the manner of refuting these characteristics, so it can be considered an antidote to lust. Equanimity, because it does not differentiate between parents, children, and so on, and only clings to beings, is the antidote to lust. Compassion is also similar to this, like loving-kindness, it is the nature of non-anger. Ancient people say that joy is the nature of inner happiness. Others say that joy is the extreme joy enjoyed together with joy, which is encompassed by the aggregate of formations. Equanimity is called non-attachment. If one thinks that because it is the nature of non-attachment, it cannot be an antidote to hatred, then "this" is said to explain, because hatred is caused by attachment. Equanimity is the antidote to hatred arising from attachment, so there is no contradiction. Although loving-kindness and equanimity are both antidotes to hatred, the difference is that loving-kindness is the nature of non-anger, so it is the antidote to all hatred, while equanimity is the nature of non-attachment, so it is the antidote to hatred arising from friendliness. This can be the nature of both, why? Because it is the antidote to lust and hatred. Here, the word "equanimity" is used for the nature of non-attachment and non-anger that is in an intermediate state, not that one dharma has multiple natures. This will be explained, that is, not subsequently clinging, nor being angry. Others say that loving-kindness is treating all beings as oneself from the depths of one's heart. Compassion is being displeased with the suffering of others. Joy is the perfection of others
