The pure ones, and the afflicted ones, and the pure ones of the second and third dhyana grounds, and the undefiled ones. Thus, after the sphere of nothingness, there are eight. After the second dhyana, there are nine. After the sphere of infinite consciousness, there are ten. Similarly, after the other dhyanas and formless realms, there are eleven. After the undefiled, there is no arising of the afflicted, because it is greatly contradictory to the entry of afflictions. Furthermore, if the pure ones also arise after all, what need is there to mention the undefiled? It is also said thus: it is taught that there are four kinds of pure ones. The so-called pure ones and afflicted ones of one's own ground are not the undefiled ones of one's own ground, nor are they the pure ones of a higher ground, or the undefiled ones, or the afflicted ones. The lower ground is only the pure one, not the afflicted one, nor the undefiled one. The so-called being tormented by afflictions means being oppressed by afflictions. The so-called transforming from virtue means that if one considers condemning evil as the correct view, then that is entirely virtuous and not afflicted. The so-called elaborating after thinking means, for example, if one thinks, "I should wake up at midnight," and then goes to sleep, one will wake up at that time because of following the habit of previous thought, just like that. The so-called undefiled ones never arise in any way after the afflicted ones means that one's own ground does not arise, nor does the lower ground arise, that is the summary. The so-called saying it for the time of absorption means that after the pure ones and the afflicted ones, only the afflicted ones of one's own ground arise, not those of other grounds. How is it said? From the pure ones, like that, the afflictions of one's own ground, from the afflicted ones, one's own purity and afflictions, that is how it is said. The so-called elaborating on the time of death and transference, the so-called time of death and transference is the state of existence of death, and that is also equally placed, so it is said

The pure one of the meditative absorption of existence has the peak of existence. The virtue attained by the birth of one born in pure meditative absorption, which is equipoise, is also called true. After that, a mind with afflictions arises, connecting the consciousness of one's own, higher, and lower realms. This is because a virtuous mind does not harm any connection at the time of death. Starting with 'from the afflicted,' the lower realm gives rise to afflictions, but the higher realm does not, because it has not separated from desire in its own realm. The peak of existence is of three kinds, except for that which is in accordance with the special aspect. At the peak of existence, except for that which is in accordance with the decisive aspect that is in accordance with the path of seeing, there is that which is in accordance with the decisive aspect that is in accordance with the uncontaminated, but not that which is in accordance with the special aspect, because there is nothing else above it. That which is in accordance with the aspect of decline is the arising of afflictions and conformity. That which is called 'subsequent conformity' is not that an afflicted one necessarily arises from it. Likewise, one should speak appropriately of others as well. After that which is in accordance with the decisive aspect, there is only one; that which arises solely is in accordance with the decisive aspect. Others say that that which is in accordance with the special aspect also arises. When arising from the uncontaminated, which pure one manifests? All three are, except for that which is in accordance with the aspect of decline. 'Connection and,' which means 'in order,' means 'in accordance with the order that accords with the system and in accordance with the order that does not accord with the system.' Because there are no afflictions and because of mastery over meditative stabilization, the absence of afflictions is because it is an Arhat. Mastery over meditative stabilization is because it is liberation without time. Likewise, the remainder also, 'in one's own realm and the lower realm,' etc., the sphere of nothingness with contamination relies on eight realms other than the peak of existence. The uncontaminated relies on nine realms. The sphere of infinite consciousness, with contamination and without contamination, relies on seven and eight realms respectively.
