From being born in the sphere of nothingness, to the interval of obtaining when born in the first dhyana, it is like that. Similarly, it should also be said that from the sphere of nothingness and so forth, dying and being born in a lower realm. Except for the peak of existence, this is because it is obtained only by separating from desire from the lower realm, but not from being born in the lower realm, because there is no other place beyond that. Considering the substance of dhyana and the formless realms, it is said that way, but the preparatory stage is not compatible with that, even if one is free from desire, it can be obtained from the application. Why is it said that it is not compatible with that? Because it is free from desire. How can merely saying "from the place of birth" surpass anything? How can it be distinguished by saying "not compatible with that"? Because even those who possess purity can obtain from the application a part that corresponds to the decisive part of the pure dhyana or formless realm substance, and from complete degeneration, they can obtain a part that corresponds to the degenerated part. The reason for saying "therefore" is because from complete degeneration, one obtains a part that corresponds to the degenerated part. Similarly, for the phrase "from complete degeneration and place of birth," how should it be understood? If asked, will a pure one obtain through complete degeneration, and will there be a case of abandoning through complete degeneration? Will pure dhyana be obtained through the place of birth, and will there be a case of abandoning through the place of birth? The answer is yes. Abandoning by separating from desire from the Brahma realm, this is because separating from desire from the Brahma realm, the first dhyana that corresponds to the degenerated part is in accordance with afflictions. It is like abandoning the afflictions of that ground. For the time being, the answer to the first question is like that. Obtaining by separating from desire from the Brahma realm, this means that even if one completely degenerates from separating from desire from the Brahma realm, one can obtain a part that corresponds to the degenerated part, just like the afflictions of that ground. Abandoning by separating from desire from the desire realm, this means that when one completely degenerates from separating from desire from the desire realm, one abandons the pure one. Similarly, for the second dhyana and so forth, it should also be said appropriately according to the circumstances. The uncontaminated is from dhyana or the formless realm

Because of being free from desire, one obtains having desire from not having it. Having desire is because of knowing exhaustion and obtaining non-learning. From the transformation of faculties, also because of faith and delight, one obtains by seeing only those who possess the stainless, and thus obtains what was not obtained before. Similarly, the liberation of time is also when realizing the immovable state, one obtains non-learning. From the aspect of definitely entering, this is widely spread. Even if taking freedom from desire as a preliminary, when definitely entering, isn't it that one obtains the stainless right from the beginning? If someone asks, because one cannot gradually obtain it, isn't it that it cannot be taken away? It means that gradually refers to relying on not being incapable, and entering into certainty, therefore one cannot obtain the essence of meditation, the stainless. The noble ones obtain without being taken away, and how one obtains without being taken away, that is how it is explained. Those with afflictions arise by degeneration. It means that from the first dhyana with afflictions, because of abandoning it by being free from desire, one obtains from completely degenerating from that freedom from desire. From the second dhyana and so on, until being born in the first dhyana, one obtains the first dhyana with afflictions. Similarly, one should speak about others according to the circumstances. The peak of existence with afflictions is obtained only from completely degenerating from freedom from desire, not from being born. The ground of the second and third dhyanas is connected to the pure and the stainless. From the stainless, afflictions do not arise, because they are very incompatible. The samadhi of transcendence, because it transcends one, therefore the one above the third dhyana does not arise. In the subsequent of dhyana and the formless, one should also add ten substances, meaning the subsequent of the third and fourth dhyanas, and the subsequent of the sphere of infinite space. Because its support and object are lower, it means that because the knowledge of dharma relies on the desire realm, and because it focuses on the desire realm, one does not enter into samadhi in the formless in the subsequent of the knowledge of dharma. Also, the afflictions of one's own ground. It means that in the subsequent of the pure first dhyana, seven arise, the three of one's own ground are stainless.
