Thus. In this way, the third dhyana has only physical pleasure, but not mental pleasure. The first and second dhyanas also have only physical pleasure, but not the pleasure of extreme pliancy. In order to show this reason, the "fourth dhyana" is described in detail. Because the fourth dhyana has more extreme pliancy than the first and second dhyanas, but does not mention pleasure, therefore the first and second dhyanas clearly want the feeling of pleasure, but not the pleasure of extreme pliancy. Otherwise, because the fourth dhyana is extremely pliant, pleasure would be specially established as a limb. If it is said "because it is in accordance with the feeling of pleasure" and so on, it is because the first and second dhyanas have pleasure, so the pleasure of extreme pliancy corresponding to this is spoken of, but the fourth dhyana has no pleasure, so although there is a lot of extreme pliancy, it is not in accordance with pleasure, so pleasure is not spoken of. The existence in the third, etc., refers to the extreme pliancy existing in the third dhyana being in accordance with extreme pleasure, but because pleasure is not mentioned, there will be confusion. If it is said "because it is overcome by equanimity", it refers to the extreme pliancy of the third dhyana being in accordance with pleasure, but because it is overcome by the realm of equanimity, pleasure is not spoken of. No, because only equanimity can increase it, it means that it is not so, because only equanimity can increase the extreme pliancy in the third dhyana. How is this known? It is said "because it is more superior than the previous two", because the realm of the third dhyana is more superior than the extreme pliancy of the realm of the first and second dhyanas. How is this known? Because the faults of the lower ground are abandoned, the body and mind are more capable there. When the noble hearer, etc., will appear in detail. How are extreme pliancy and pleasure explained separately from there? When the noble hearer experiences the pleasure arising from extreme solitude with his body and abides in perfection, then the five dharmas here will be abandoned, and the five dharmas are the complete practice
