Furthermore, it is said, "The continuum of mind is the support." and so on, and "Whose continuum is free from desire for form," and so on, have already been explained. Because the word "three" is added, and it is said to be "formless," it is a masculine indication. The so-called "therefore combine" means that at the time of combination, one will focus on space and so on. Otherwise, one will accordingly focus on other dharmas as well. This shows that by accomplishing the combination of contemplating "space is infinite," because one is liberated from form, the yogi will truly abide in the perception of space on those form aggregates. By accomplishing the combination of contemplating "consciousness is infinite," it is the sphere of infinite consciousness. Taking the sign on the completely purified six aggregates of consciousness, one attends to "it is consciousness." One closely conceives, truly knows. Because that combination is accomplished, rising from it, one will accordingly focus on other dharmas as well. By accomplishing the equanimous combination of contemplating "there is nothing at all," it is the sphere of nothingness. From vastness and infinity, the thought of being devoid of it arises. Therefore, it is named by the power of combination. Because consciousness is small, because the activity is not clear, it is the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, it abides as if it were without perception. It is not as clear in consciousness as the seven samadhis, nor is it without consciousness like the unconscious samadhi, unconsciousness, and cessation samadhi. Therefore, it is called the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. Regarding this, if it is not feasible through itself because of such a combination, then therefore, if it is also like this, etc., is mentioned. Why do they hold onto it in this way? The so-called "they" refers to those who enter into samadhi. The so-called "to this" refers to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. What is the cause for those births of consciousness and unconsciousness to arise the wisdom of neither perception nor non-perception there? Because consciousness is small, it is said that this itself is the cause.

Because of change, that itself is explained; due to the power of combination, names are given in other categories. The sources of arising are called such because they entwine the body and because they entwine extensively. If asked, how are the seven three types? It is said that there are flavorsome associations, pure, and uncontaminated. Saying that the uncontaminated does not exist is because of inferior consciousness. Even if dhyana is associated with other afflictions, why is it said to be afflicted when it is associated in the same way as with flavor, but not associated in the same way as with other afflictions? Dhyanas are only said to be associated in the same way as existence because they are completely separated due to being related to the object of focus. Other afflictions do not connect with the object of focus and the mind in the same way as existence, because they enter through the aspect of flavor and because they closely analyze the object of focus like samadhi. Worldly virtue is called pure because it is not associated with the defilement of afflictions and because it possesses virtuous qualities such as non-attachment. What makes it flavorful? It is purity that makes it flavorful. Arising from that is arising from purity. What makes it flavorful? It is association with flavor, which is to enter into equipoise with it. Only dhyana possesses limbs, not the formless realms. If asked why, some say it is because the taste is the same in quiescence. If those that are coarse in movement are established as limbs there, then in the formless realms, because of the greater proximity to quiescence, all those movements of mind and mental factors are weak, so it is impossible to establish limbs on them. In those places where the knowledge of samadhi is greater, no other mental factors are principal. For one, the sound of a limb is also unsuitable. Therefore, limbs are not established in the formless realms, they say. Others say that limbs are established only in those places where mental factors completely cease. In the first dhyana, suffering and displeasure cease. In the second dhyana, investigation and analysis cease. In the third dhyana, joy ceases. In the fourth dhyana,
