Regarding action, that itself is free from afflictions and so on, different from them, the fourth dhyana arising from union is the great among the great. The statement "it is attained by its power" means by the power of the extreme limit. That is not the ground of the fourth dhyana, because there is no conceptualization there, and because it is fully aroused by a mind with conceptualization. The qualities of being free from afflictions and so on are encompassed by the dhyana of the extreme limit, therefore it is called its nature. The statement "it is the perfection of increase" means thinking that it is not everything. The statement "that is agreed upon by all grounds" means the meaning of being taken up closely by all grounds. The statement "incompatible" refers from the realm of neither perception nor non-perception to the realm of nothingness. From then on, not the realm of infinite consciousness, similarly up to the desire realm. The statement "because there is ultimate perfection in this" means that there is extreme increase in this. The statement "like the four alternatives" means that just as the four alternatives are four aspects, similarly the extreme is also the extreme perfection of aspects. The statement "other than the Buddha" means that the Hearers or Solitary Buddhas are produced from combination. The statement "because he is the lord of all dharmas" is a synonym for the fact that dharmas enter into his control. Direct knowledge and so on are the respective birthplaces. Also, regarding the word "also," the word "also" includes the Hearers as well. The direct knowledge of knowing the realm of magical power, which is to be manifested, is because it enables the attainment of transformation and walking in the sky, therefore it is magical power, it is samadhi. The realm of magical power is the realm of magical power, namely transformation and walking in the sky. The knowledge of the realm of magical power is the knowledge of the realm of magical power, and to manifest it is to make it manifest. The divine ear means that the knowledge that relies on the divine ear is the knowledge of the divine ear, and to manifest it is to make it manifest. Knowing the variety of minds is knowing the distinctions of minds, that is, knowing the attachment, hatred, and delusion of others' minds. Or, various

The number is sequential. Sometimes it is understood as attachment, and sometimes as hatred, and so on. The previous abode is the previous abode. The recollection of the previous abode is the recollection of the previous abode, and the knowledge associated with it is the knowledge of recollecting the previous abode. Death and birth are death and birth. Knowing these is knowing death and birth, which is said to be the supernormal knowledge of the divine eye. The exhaustion of defilements is the exhaustion of defilements. Knowing it is knowing the exhaustion of defilements, and this is connected to each of the supernormal knowledges to be manifested. Saying that the five are common with ordinary beings means except for the last one. Like the fruit of a renunciate, it means that just as the fruit of a renunciate is encompassed by the path of conditioned liberation, so too is supernormal knowledge. But it is not the immediate path, because knowing the minds of others obstructs the immediate path, and if the immediate path that exhausts defilements is abandoned, then even an Arhat would become one without supernormal knowledge. Therefore, supernormal knowledge is encompassed by the path of liberation. The four are conventional knowledge. That is to say, the object of the three is only form, and the supernormal knowledge of recollecting previous abodes takes the previous limit as its object. Non-defiled knowledge is not like that. There are five types of knowledge in the mind. That is to say, knowing the minds of others is both defiled and non-defiled, so it is encompassed by the five types of knowledge. Knowing the minds of others is one type of knowledge, and it is also a part of the four, as has been said before. Except for the knowledge of cessation, non-arising, suffering, origination, and cessation, because they are successively of the nature of knowing the minds of others, and because they are objects of one aspect of their own characteristics, and because they are objects of mind and mental factors, it is clear that the knowledge of exhaustion and so on is obvious. This is called the power of knowing the exhaustion of defilements as it has been explained. If knowing the exhaustion of defilements is cessation.
