It is one who focuses on the desire that is focused on that place. What is it? It is knowing the minds of others. Saying "no" is negating it. What will be shown? Only knowing the minds of others, but not knowing the desire focused on that. Because it is the scope of activity of each individual thing. Therefore, here it is explained in detail that "having desire." Because for the mind of a learner without outflows and the mind of a non-learner with outflows, it will become having desire; knowing the minds of others is not focused on attainment, nor is it focused on the desire focused on that. Therefore, it is not having desire. Then what is it? The mind that is in accordance with desire is having desire, and even if there is the attainment of desire, the mind that is not in accordance with desire, because it is free from desire. The intention of the sutra is to say that the meaning of the sutra cannot be otherwise. There, it is understood and spoken from being separated from its attainment. That is to say, it is shown that it is understood and spoken from being separated from the attainment of desire and so on, and not just being in accordance. For the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm, there are other statements that are of the nature of non-retrogression, and it is thought that it is because of faults that it shows being free from the desire of the three realms. It is explained in detail, "Has it not already been explained?" Where is it explained? Some say, from "In this sutra" to "If not being in accordance with desire is being free from desire, then being in accordance with afflictions will also become being in accordance," it is explained there. With this intention, there is no fault. With what intention? Therefore, it is explained in detail, "Free from desire." The word "etc." includes all the collections and distractions, etc., as stated in the sutra. If it is not like that, then it will also become focused on form, that is to say, if one knows that one has developed attachment to a certain thing such as form.

Because it is focused on the ground. The so-called grasping the mind of another by focusing on that, means grasping the mind by focusing on the mind of another. The so-called becoming the grasping of one's own nature is the same as saying it will become the grasping of one's own mind. Grasping one's own nature is unreasonable, because acting on one's own self is contradictory. If asked, how will it become grasping one's own nature? The answer is: with some mind knowing the mind of another, whoever's mind is grasped, that also focuses on the mind known by that mind knowing the mind of another, this is possible, because both are minds knowing the mind of another. The undefiled mind knowing the mind of another will also focus on suffering and so on, therefore, if it also accords with emptiness (śūnyatā, 空性), sign or signlessness, then it is not desirable. The so-called all knowledge of others, means either defiled or undefiled. Regarding the mind and mental factors and the own-characteristic of matter, the term 'matter' is used to eliminate the conventional truth. The term 'own-characteristic' is used to preclude the general characteristic. Saying 'mind and mental factors' is to differentiate the nature of matter such as form. Saying 'present' is to preclude past and future minds and mental factors. Saying 'the continuum of another' is to eliminate the mind and mental factors of one's own continuum. Saying 'associated with desire and form' is to preclude the mind associated with the formless. These are past places, not objects of the mind knowing the mind of another. The so-called obstructing the path of seeing, means that when abiding on the path of seeing, the mind knowing the mind of another does not arise, because combination is not possible. The mind knowing the mind of another is manifest, therefore it is extremely distinct. At that time there is no manifestation, nor is it included by it. Why? Because the mind included by the path of seeing does not focus on the mind of cessation, but focuses on everything. The so-called focusing on the path of meditation, means that at that time it is manifest and included by it.
