Because it possesses similarities with many grounds. It is called "for the sake of" in order to accurately show the distinctions of its faults. The fault of that afflicted one is its fault. The distinction of its fault is the distinction of its fault. Showing that is accurately showing the distinction of its fault. Thus, this afflicted mind is distracted because it possesses similarities with distraction. It is dejected because it possesses similarities with laziness, and so forth, should be explained extensively. Similarly, it is also extensively explained by accurately showing the distinctions of the qualities of virtue, called "because," although it is similar to virtue, it is because it is manifestly gathered on the object. All such as "completely gathered" should be spoken. Therefore, in that, although it is similar to the nature of affliction and similar to the nature of virtue, in order to accurately show the distinctions of those, these words are called "because" because they have not abandoned the contradiction with the Sutra. In the Sutra, it is said that the mind is completely gathered together with dullness and sleep, but it is not virtuous, because dullness is not a ground of many afflictions. Sleep is both afflicted and not afflicted. This is not the meaning of those words, the meaning is the same as what the Westerners said. If it is thought that the Sutra says that the mind is both dejected and agitated, then when the mind is dejected and doubts dejection, the time for cultivating thorough purification, concentration, and equanimity, the limbs of perfect enlightenment, is not the time, this determination will not change, but it must be said: At that time, it is also not the time to cultivate discrimination of dharma, diligence, and joy, the limbs of perfect enlightenment. Why? Because the dejected mind is the agitated one. Similarly, when the mind is agitated and doubts agitation, the time for cultivating discrimination of dharma, diligence, and joy, the limbs of perfect enlightenment, is not the time, this determination will not change, but it must be said: At that time,

Therefore, it must also be said that it is not the time to cultivate diligence, samadhi, and equanimity, the limbs of perfect enlightenment. Why? Because the agitated mind itself is sinking. Furthermore, how do the Vaibhashikas say that sinking is agitation? Because the sinking mind is associated with laziness, it is afflicted. Agitation is associated with agitation, so it is afflicted. Because they said so. Laziness and agitation are also the ground of many afflictions, because they arise in all minds. Here, the limb of perfect enlightenment, mindfulness, is not mentioned because mindfulness is all-pervasive, so even if it is not mentioned for both minds, it is already established. The sutra says, 'I say that mindfulness is all-pervasive.' What is 'whether to cultivate the limbs of enlightenment separately'? It is a synonym for 'whether to cultivate separately.' Here it is said that these are considered to be cultivated through attention, not actualized. Attention is the object of focus during the stage of application, so they do not contradict each other. By cultivating the limbs of enlightenment through attention, one can be free from sinking, and by being free from it, there will be no afflictions in the continuum, and later all the limbs will be actualized. Here, what is excessive laziness is explained in detail, which is what the sutra says, 'When will the mind sink?' The statement that excessive agitation is agitation is not contradictory. If the sutra considers 'the mind itself is both sinking and agitation,' then what is the detailed explanation of 'what dharma is the sinking of the mind?' 'Because the two exist simultaneously' refers to laziness and agitation. Saying 'the mind itself is both sinking and agitation' is because laziness and agitation are the ground of afflictions, so they arise simultaneously. The Sutra Master says, 'The words of those with thoughts cannot be contradicted, but the intent of the sutra is that excessive laziness is sinking, and excessive agitation is agitation.'

Saying "This is not," etc., is because it extensively explains "Why is the desire for what is asked?" Whatever is said, "All minds possessing desire are possessed by desire," how is it? In this case, the mind that corresponds to desire is possessed by the desire of both. Other than that, the contaminated is possessed by desire because it possesses corresponding desire, therefore it is said so. As for "The uncontaminated of the learner will also become possessed by desire," the mind of the learner who has entered the stream, etc., is undoubtedly accompanied by the attainment of desire on the path of seeing and the path of meditation, because desire has not been abandoned. If it is assumed that "it is the object of desire," it means that if it is thought that any mind that is not the object of desire is possessed by desire, then the contaminated mind of the Arhat will also be considered to be possessed by desire. The worldly mind of the Arhat is also the object of the desire of others, therefore, if it also becomes possessed by desire, then this is not desirable. Also, how is it contaminated? Suppose the worldly mind of the Arhat is not the object of desire. If it is thought that it is contaminated because it is the object of the general characteristics of afflictions such as view, doubt, and ignorance, then, because of knowing the minds of others, it will also be considered to be possessed by ignorance, because the contaminated mind of the Arhat is the object of ignorance. Ignorance is also a general characteristic of afflictions, so the mind of the Arhat is the object of the ignorance of others. Knowing the minds of others is also not based on attainment, because it is based on mind and mental factors, and attainment is not corresponding. As for "not being based on the desire that is based on that mind," here, "that" is connected to the mind of others. Whatever desire that mind is based on is the one who is based on that mind. Whoever has the desire that is based on the mind is the mind
