It is not wisdom, nor is it characterized by correctly perceiving desire, etc. What is it then? It is characterized by attachment, pervasive vexation, and arrogance, etc. What are the ten so-called "ten knowledges"? They refer to the knowledge of Dharma, following Dharma, convention, others' minds, suffering, origin, cessation, path, exhaustion, and non-arising. This composition is for the purpose of definite grasping, because other knowledges such as those of death, birth, and aspiration are included within these alone. In brief, the so-called "knowledge with outflows and without outflows" is composed for the purpose of definite grasping, because there are no three discriminations. Of these two, the first to arise is called "conventional." The reason for saying "most pots, blankets, men, and women, etc., are grasping at the conventional" is that the conventional is whatever of pots, blankets, men, and women, etc., becomes a component of nomenclature. What arises from that is the conventional, because the thought of pots, etc., arises in things such as form. Most of the world's nomenclature depends on the collection of things such as form, and thus does not depend on the self-characteristics and general characteristics of things such as form; therefore, "most" and so forth are mentioned. In one respect, even when there is something that has the object of being without outflows, such as when it becomes warm, why is it said to accord with nomenclature? Because it is also shown by "most," like saying, for example, "ministers must always speak, and lords must always rebuke." The so-called "two without outflows" refers to the fact that knowledge without outflows is divided into two types: knowledge of Dharma and knowledge following Dharma. Therefore, the so-called "these two knowledges" refers to the two, with outflows and without outflows. The so-called "it is three" refers to dividing the without outflows into two through the distinction of Dharma and following Dharma, and adding conventional knowledge, making it three. These are different due to the difference in objects.
