Because of separation. The virtue that arises from its continuum does not arise simultaneously with the attainment of afflictions. Therefore, the virtue that arises in the continuum of a non-learner, even if it is a worldly person, will be shown to be liberated from the attainment of afflictions. What will cease is the present. The present is what depends on aging and the action of impermanence, and is called what will cease, because it tends towards manifest cessation. The word "is" is for the purpose of having to understand definitively that it is only what will cease. If the path of what will cease does not abandon its obscurations, then how can it be possible for what is arising, what is being liberated, and what is immediately liberated to become possible? What is said to be liberation as unconditioned refers to the unconditioned that destroys afflictions. Regarding the question of the arising of the three realms, from where does it arise? It arises from the sutras. What shows it is "the realm of abandonment," etc., which is spoken of extensively. Unconditioned itself is called realm. This refers to the fact that there is no difference whatsoever between unconditioned and the three realms. Because the liberation of unconditioned itself is the three realms, in order to show this, it is said, "All desire is exhausted, free from desire." Abandoning the desire of the three realms is the realm free from desire. Regarding "other than desire," abandoning all the afflictions of the three realms other than desire is the realm of abandonment. Regarding "other than afflictions," abandoning all of the three realms that are the basis for universal combination is the realm of cessation. What is meant by "by what thing does aversion arise" should be understood as by what path. Only patience and knowledge towards suffering and origination will cause aversion to arise, because the object of focus is the object of aversion. What is meant by "others are not" refers to the fact that patience and knowledge towards cessation and the path are not, because the object of focus is the object of extreme joy. What is meant by "by what is abandoned, will be free from all desire" refers to by what is affliction abandoned, referring to all the patience and knowledge towards suffering, origination, cessation, and the path.

If so, then there are the so-called fourfold distinctions. How so? There are those who become disgusted but do not become detached from desire. There are those who become detached from desire but do not become disgusted. There are those who are both. There are those who are neither. If it is said that with patience and knowledge towards suffering and its origin, the afflictions are not abandoned, then it is only disgust, that is, if one must necessarily engage in detachment from desire, then with knowledge of the Dharma and patience towards suffering and its origin, the afflictions are not abandoned, because they have already been abandoned. Because it is focused on a disgusting object, it is only disgust. If with patience and knowledge towards cessation and the path, the afflictions are abandoned, then it is only detachment from desire, and not disgust, because it is focused on an object of extreme joy. If the afflictions are abandoned by the former, then it is both, the former here referring to patience and knowledge towards suffering and its origin. How so? Because it is focused on a disgusting object, it is disgust, and when the afflictions are abandoned, it is detachment from desire. If the afflictions are not abandoned by the latter, then it is neither, the latter here referring to patience and knowledge towards cessation and the path. If one must necessarily engage in detachment from desire from desire, then with knowledge of the Dharma and patience towards cessation and the path, one will not be disgusted, because it is focused on an object of extreme joy. One will not be detached from desire, because it has already been abandoned. If it is said that with patience and knowledge towards the truth of suffering, etc., the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of seeing are not abandoned, then therefore "towards that" etc. is spoken. Or, if it is said that all the afflictions of the first and fourth categories are not abandoned, then who is shown not to abandon the afflictions? To this, it is explained in detail that "a detached person", saying "towards that" is for approaching the meaning. From the desire realm to the birthplace of nothingness, it can also be. If a person detached from desire manifests the view of the truths.
