What is "what I am"? It means that afflictions such as desire are abandoned through cultivation, and it is also because one clings to the aspects of purity, happiness, and permanence in impure things, so it is a reversed clinging. The doer is the doer of virtuous and non-virtuous actions. The feeler is the enjoyer of the fruit. The so-called "entering its basis" is extensively explained, that is, for things that appear as me, one clings to permanence and annihilation. Similarly, it should be said for others as well. The so-called desire, anger, and pride are extensively explained, desire refers to the nature of being pleasing, such as form, etc., without discrimination, clinging to it, entering in the manner of clinging, so it is called having a basis. It should be said similarly for hatred and so on. The so-called "things to be abandoned by seeing do not have the nature of self, etc." means that for things to be abandoned by seeing, there is not even a little bit of the basis of the nature of self and what belongs to self, each determined separately. As it is said, "I or what belongs to me is emptiness." Therefore, saying "without basis" means that there is no separately determined basis. The teacher also said "noble ones." The so-called "loss of mindfulness," loss of mindfulness refers to defiled mindfulness. The so-called "like the illusion of a snake on a rope" means that, for example, due to loss of mindfulness, one may have the illusion of a snake on a rope, but not from a definite conceptualization. The so-called "for uncertain conceptualization" means that views, etc., enter into the aspect of definite conceptualization. The so-called "even from the state of Arhat, one can completely fall away" means that it is not only that one will not completely fall away from abandoning the things to be abandoned by seeing, but that one thinks so. The so-called "this is the reason" means that the teacher establishes the tenets. The so-called "how should this be understood?" That is, monks, whatever is abandoned by the wisdom of the noble ones is abandoned, it is said. It will be shown that even if non-noble ones abandon it, it is not abandoned, because it will arise again, that is what is thought. The state of Arhat is worldly.

It is not held by the worldly path, because worldly beings do not have the antidote to the peak of existence. The sutra says, "One should be mindful of what is to be learned, I say," which is the second source for saying that an arhat does not regress. Because sentient beings may attain fruition through the worldly path, it is possible to regress from the two fruits, and their defilements are also still remaining, so it is said to be mindful; while those who do not learn, because they have abandoned all defilements and cannot attain fruition through the worldly path, do not regress, so it is not said to be mindful of them. The Vaibhashikas say: This is necessary, because even if a learner has become detached from desire between the abodes of nothingness, if he regresses again, he will be born in the realm of form, so the Blessed One taught that one should be mindful of them. But even if a non-learner regresses, there is no opportunity to manifest existence again, so it is not said to be mindful. This contradicts the reasoning that will be explained, and because it causes doubt, it is not accepted. A learner will regress, because it is obtained through the worldly path, and there is still a remainder. Others, in order to dispel the idea that other sutras also say that arhats should be mindful, because it is said that gain and respect cause obstacles, so they extensively said, "Venerable Ananda, some arhats also," gain and respect only cause obstacles to dwelling happily in the present dharma, but not to the arhat himself, so they do not need to be mindful. This explains in detail "immovable mind liberation," and the sutra only says in its own language that arhats do not regress, which is what is to be expressed. If it is said that those with temporal conditions regress, what does that mean? It is to regress from liberation. There are two kinds of mind liberation, those with temporal conditions and those that are immovable. Among them, the immovable is specifically mentioned, so mind liberation will regress from temporal conditions.
