Those who possess the Dharma of decline, if not protected, are destined to decline and will not abide. To sever this, it is said that they will not decline. The meaning of 'not increasing' is that they will not attain the share of realization. 'If there is no diligence' means if there is no initiation of diligence. If diligence is initiated, then one will become destined to attain. 'If there is no power of the cause of decline' means that those who possess the Dharma of complete decline, etc., even a small cause of complete decline will lead to complete decline. This is what is to be shown. The causes of complete decline are as stated in the sutras: How so? With five causes and five conditions, an Arhat liberated in time will completely decline. What are the five? Engaging in the extreme of activity. Engaging in speech. Engaging in disputes. Possessing the practice of wandering far. Suffering from prolonged illness. The first two refer to those who possess the Dharma of complete decline and those who contemplate death. 'Previously' refers to the stage of ordinary beings and learners. There is no constant practice and no respectful practice. Although neither has both, those who contemplate death engage in the most abusive behavior towards the body because they generate the thought of destroying themselves, or doubt complete decline, or realize that the body is a collection of impure substances and that there is no need to abide, and therefore contemplate their own death, or attain liberation by relying on not cherishing life, as it is said: 'Placing the blade of a weapon on the neck, then the mind is liberated.' The third refers to those who possess the Dharma of protection, who practice constantly but not respectfully, because they think that the liberation of the mind is extremely necessary to protect. The fourth refers to those who do not move from abiding. They practice respectfully but not constantly, because even if they do not protect, they are destined to abide, but they completely decline.

Any small factor will not cause it to deteriorate, and if there is no diligence, it will not increase, and most of the time it is practiced in a moderate way. The difference between having the potential for realization and the dharma of non-regression lies in the faculties, not in the practice, because both are constantly practicing and respectfully practicing. If it is done that way, if it is said to be the dharma of deterioration, it is not necessarily certain to deteriorate, and if it is said that realization will only occur when one has the potential for realization, then it is permissible to have six Arhats in all three realms. Which ones will definitely deteriorate? This is explained in detail. If it is not so, then the names of these "dharmas of deterioration" will be reversed, because the sound of dharma is used to express self-nature, I think so. According to their view, there are six in the desire realm, and only here is it possible to deteriorate, remember death, and transfer faculties. Those two refer to the form and formless realms. Because there is no deterioration, remembrance of death, and transfer of faculties. Because there, due to complete familiarity from previous lives, the faculties have completely matured, and a special basis has been obtained, so there is no deterioration. Because there is no deterioration, there is also no dharma of deterioration. Precisely because there is no deterioration, there is no need to guard, so there is also no dharma to be guarded. There is also no dharma of remembering death, because there is no cause for deterioration, no aversion that corresponds to remembering death, and no harm to oneself or others. Because there is no transfer of faculties, there is also no potential for realization. For those who abide without moving and the dharma of non-regression, because they do not depend on deterioration, remembrance of death, and transfer of faculties, it will become that only those two exist. If the five are deteriorated from the fruition, then how can abiding without moving be established in the form and formless realms? Because of what?

If it is not obstructed, it will not completely degenerate, because there is no causal power of complete degeneration there. The so-called "will not completely degenerate from one's own lineage" means that the lineage with the nature of complete degeneration, unlike the lineage with the thought of death, is not produced from cultivation, therefore it will not completely degenerate. From the remaining lineages, it will completely degenerate, that is, from those lineages that are produced by cultivation. Regarding the point that "will not completely degenerate from the first lineage," the reason given is "because it is stabilized by the paths of learning and non-learning," which is a synonym for stabilizing the Dharma and for being stable. After "learning," it should be added that "it will not completely degenerate from the first lineage." Similarly, for the sake of stability, worldly and transmundane paths are also mentioned. The so-called "which is the first fruit" refers to the fruit of stream-enterer, or the fruit of once-returner, or the fruit of non-returner. Regarding "from the remaining lineages, it will completely degenerate," it means that it will degenerate from any lineage that is not the first. Therefore, the so-called "will not completely degenerate from the fruit of stream-enterer" is because it is the first in all cases, not the second or third. It should be understood that, in order, there are five, six, and seven types. The so-called those with the nature of following are five types, namely: nirvana in the middle, nirvana at birth, becoming a learner after degeneration, returning to the lineage with the nature of degeneration, and returning to the lineage with the thought of death. The immovable are six types, namely the above five types, plus returning to the lineage of following the Dharma. Those with a share of realization are seven types, namely the above six types, plus returning to the immovable lineage. The so-called "which is the first lineage" refers to the one that starts from the stage of learning.
