Now, this (four mindfulnesses) is the antidote to the perverted notion of taking "non-self" as "self." The third is focusing on the unmixed, which means that mindfulness of the body is focused on the body itself, up to mindfulness of the mind is focused on the mind itself. Because it is focused on each determination. The fourth is both, which means that dharma mindfulness, focusing on the mixed is focusing on the general, meaning focusing on the mixture. Focusing on the unmixed is focusing on the non-mixed. Abiding in focusing on the general, which means that all things such as the body are summarized into the general, and observing with the aspect of impermanence. From this, warmth arises. It means that after dharma recollection, in order to comprehend the formations in an instant, one contemplates birth and death. If the formations are not momentary, how can one follow the formations? Then contemplate dependent origination. When one comprehends dependent origination with contaminated wisdom, then, immediately following that, is the aspect of selflessness arising from focusing on all dharmas. Immediately following that are the aggregates, elements, and sources, contemplating the three meanings, being skilled in the seven places. Thus, from dharma mindfulness focusing on the general, the root of virtue that has become warm arises, this is the order. The teacher only gave a slight example. "Became warm" means the root of virtue of the aspect of warmth. Because it is similar to warmth, it is warm, because it is the precursor of the fire of the noble path. Just as fire is produced from rubbing wood up and down, similarly, from the rubbing of knowledge and the knowable, the heat of the fire of the noble path arises, and for the heat, through the order of diligent and repeated rubbing, burning the dry firewood of existence, thereby producing the fire of uncontaminated wisdom that absorbs, therefore it is called the root of virtue that becomes warm. Because it is continuous.

That is because it is continuous, that is its meaning. If it is not so, but taking into account the case where the object is completely interrupted, if it is a moment, then it will not be directed towards the four truths, let alone the sixteen aspects, the differences of these will be explained below, that is, from the seventh chapter of the Abhidharmakośa, "In reality there are sixteen aspects" this is where it starts. If those are also the same as it, then why are they taught separately? Therefore, it is said, "Because it is a supreme dharma, it is given another name." In order to know the names separately, it is said, "Because it is the peak of the movement of the root of virtue." The word "peak" is a supreme word, just as speakers say, "His glory has reached its peak." Warmth and peak are the two movements of the root of virtue, because of complete degeneration. Because of falling and transcending from those, this is said from the peak. Falling is said from complete degeneration. Transcending is said from the manifestation of patience. Thus, this shows that because it is the most supreme, it is the peak, there is no transcendence from the warmth. In the beginning, the aspects are established on the truths, what is it that establishes the aspects on the truths? That is, it causes the objects to arise towards them. For "others also increase it", the word "also" is used because the four mindfulnesses are also, increasing it is purifying it. What was previously obtained will not manifest. Because there is no joy for the inferior that was previously obtained. Those obtained with five aspects are inferior, so there is not much joy for them, therefore, others of the same kind that are superior are manifested. From that peak, patience arises again from the gradual increase of small, medium, and large. In order to know the names separately, it is said, "Because of greater patience for the truth." Again, why is there greater patience for the truth? Therefore, it is said, "In a way that does not degenerate", there is no complete degeneration from patience.

It is so. In the stage of warmth, there is a small tolerance for the truths. In the stage of the peak, there is a medium tolerance. In the stage of tolerance, it is said that there is a great tolerance. What is called "Thus the two" are small and medium tolerance, like the peaks, as previously stated. What is called "Thus, for the sake of transformation" is because the truths are transformed by the establishment of mindfulness of the Dharma, which is a synonym for "Thus, for the sake of establishment." Tolerance is: everything increases through the Dharma. It is called "because the nature of mindfulness is supreme." It is called "because it is close to the excellence of the Dharma." It will be explained in detail. The excellences of the Dharma in the desire realm, focusing on suffering, are for the sake of generating the tolerance of knowing the Dharma in its aftermath. Being close to the excellence of the Dharma is similar to it. It is called "because the determination is not mentioned." Because, like great tolerance, the determination of the object of warmth and so on is not mentioned, therefore it is established that these warmth and so on are focused on the suffering of the three realms and so on. If asked: How is great tolerance the object of suffering belonging to the desire realm? Answer: When the antidotes of the form and formless realms, etc., are reduced one by one from the aspects and objects of the truth, it will appear. The word "etc." includes the cessation, origin, and truth of suffering of the afflictions that operate in the form and formless realms, and similarly includes the antidotes, cessation, origin, and truth of suffering of the afflictions that operate in the desire realm. Reducing each aspect of those truths one by one, and reducing each object one by one, etc. How to reduce? The path that is in accordance with the qualities of subsequent knowledge is first established as four aspects, then three, then two, then one. For the time being, reducing each aspect of the truth is like that. After that, even if only one remains, the aspect is not established, reducing the object is like that. In this order, only the suffering of the desire realm.
