It is for the sake of being in between. What is called "this is only near afflictions" are those that are close to afflictions. What is called "what are those that arise from subtle roots" are displeasure, hiring, discouragement, ignorance, not being able to maintain the warmth of food, and so on. Here, what is called "only being gathered by complete entanglement and the stain of afflictions" is being gathered by complete entanglement and being gathered by the stain of afflictions. Then, because these completely entangle the prison of existence, are they complete entanglements? Or, if these exist, bad behaviors will arise, so they are complete entanglements. What is called "shamelessness and lack of shame have already been explained" is: disrespect, shamelessness, lack of shame, not regarding sin and fear. That is it. What is called "inner turmoil" is the pain of the mind that is preceded by being unable to bear the perfection of others. What is called "stinginess" is the thought that nothing should flow from oneself to others, that is stinginess, and its essence is stinginess itself. What is called "contradictory to the giving of Dharma, wealth, and the wise" is contradictory to the giving of Dharma, contradictory to the giving of wealth, and contradictory to the giving of the wise. What is called "mental grasping" is the state of mind that is preceded by manifest attachment to things and wants not to be separated from it. What is called "excitement is the mind not being pacified" refers to the mind not being pacified by songs, dances, gestures, and decorations, and with what one becomes associated with, one will go astray, that is excitement. What is called "regret and torpor have already been explained," in this regard, the second chapter of the Abhidharmakosha says, "The essence of bad actions is regret," and so on, and it is said that "torpor is the unsuitability of body and mind." What is called "sleep is the gathering of the mind," if it is said like this, then it will also be a fault on samadhi, therefore it is said that "one cannot properly hold the body." So, this is only an affliction-related complete entanglement, not virtuous or unstated.

English

It is so. Regret is also entirely entangled with afflictions, and is not virtuous. Anger refers to universally tormenting sentient and non-sentient beings, other than harmful intent and various forms of harm. For example, like a monk's mind being disturbed when wanting to learn, and being troubled by thorns and the like. Concealment refers to hiding faults, and faults refer to things that should be condemned, such as the decline of discipline, conduct, and livelihood. Hiding refers to the cause of wanting to conceal these things, which is to keep sins hidden within and not reveal them. In order, those who know and those who do not know are like this. This sentence should be connected to "those individuals who possess concealment," and for those who are known by kings and the like, it is because of craving, thinking that they will lose gain and respect. For those who do not know, it is because of the cause of ignorance, not believing that karma is created by oneself, so they conceal faults, and do not cling to others separately for the sake of purification. If it is said that shamelessness is the cause of ignorance, how should it be understood? Because shamelessness does not regard (evil deeds) as fearful. Regret arises from doubt, which is to explain the nature of afflictions. Afflictive defilement means that just as defilement arises from the body, these causes and so on also arise from afflictions. Cause refers to deceiving others, and those who have the intention of deceiving others will use deceptive scales and other means. Deceit refers to a mind that is not upright, and deceit refers to hiding one's own and others' inner thoughts, and a mind that is not upright that exists as a means of being unclear. Pride has been explained before, pride is: clinging to one's own dharma, the mind is completely tormented. This is its meaning. Because it is associated with two types of afflictions, it means that it is to be abandoned by the paths of seeing and meditation. In this way, shamelessness and lack of shame are associated with all non-virtuous dharmas. Dullness and agitation are afflictions.
