Even for those Arhats who have abandoned the notion of unpleasantness, feelings necessarily arise due to favorable and unfavorable circumstances. Therefore, for these (Arhats), physical and mental pleasure and pain are respectively pleasure, pain, joy, and sorrow, thus the feelings are different. As for equanimity, whether it is physical, mental, or arising from or increasing due to maturation, it is only non-attention, naturally, without special effort, it arises, therefore it is classified as one feeling. Physical pleasure can also help others, which is a broad statement. Physical pleasure and pain help and harm the body and mind for a short time. Physical pleasure and pain are intense, rapid, and continuous. Mental pleasure and pain are not like that; they can only provide help or cause harm for a short time when the mind is fully matured and when unpleasant thoughts arise. For equanimity, there is no distinction such as physical equanimity can help others, and mental equanimity can also help others. Therefore, equanimity has no difference, so there is no distinction. Now discussing the undefiled (feelings). For these (undefiled ones), although there is nothing that needs to be specifically pointed out, however: the path of seeing, the path of cultivation, and the path of no more learning, each has nine, three (types of feelings). (In these paths) the nine feelings are mentioned three times, namely the feeling of all-knowing, etc. Do these feelings of all-knowing, etc., become something that can be nominally established like a vase? No, they do not. Being able to dominate is the meaning of feeling, and each combination can dominate, therefore it is the feeling of all-knowing, etc. But vases, etc., cannot be individually called vases, etc. The consciousness that exists in the path of seeing, etc., is the mental feeling. The three feelings of pleasure, etc., depend on the basis as appropriate; the path of seeing and the path of cultivation are the sixth and ninth grounds respectively.

is the reason. All virtues are pure five. It is said that faith and so on are all present, but happiness, joy, and equanimity do not exist simultaneously in that way. Why? If asked, these are the roots of omniscience, etc., in the three paths in order. In the path of seeing, the four truths are not known, and the root of omniscience arises, which is the root of omniscience. In the path of meditation, there is nothing to be known that was not seen before, and so on, until the root of omniscience, the four truths should be known, the sixteen stainless ones, and nothing else. Therefore, in the path of meditation, there is nothing to be known that was not there before, therefore, realizing the truth of the four truths, if it is a root, then it is the root of omniscience. That itself is the knower of all, it is said, the path of meditation is the object of the four truths that have already been realized by the path of seeing. If the path of seeing itself has known all four truths, then for the sake of abandonment, how does the path of meditation realize it? It is for the sake of abandoning the subtle remnants. Thus, the path of seeing is the knower of all for the sake of abandoning the subtle predispositions to be abandoned by seeing. The path of meditation is the knower of all for the sake of abandoning the afflictions to be abandoned by meditation. One who possesses the thought of omniscience is one who has the characteristics of knowing the cessation and non-arising of omniscience. Because it is in this, or because the nature of guarding omniscience is in this, it is endowed with omniscience, which is the meaning of having, and the meaning of its nature. Such a one becomes the root endowed with omniscience. What is the difference between the root of omniscience and this? It also knows omniscience itself, doesn't it? Therefore, in order to obtain the wisdom of cessation and non-arising, it is widely said. Such a root is a synonym for realizing omniscience and having the nature of guarding. Here, it is from the perspective of showing one's own nature.

What is the feeling of the body that is not pleasant? The feeling of suffering, etc., shows their own nature. The life faculty, etc., which will be discussed next, should have their own nature fully revealed. After revealing their own nature, this is called manifestation. To speak of various distinctions is to speak of things such as defiled and undefiled. Abhidharma is for the purpose of distinguishing the meaning of Dharma very well. Three is called immaculate. Three must be determined to be only immaculate. Because there is the saying "nine are two kinds," and because the undefiled path is included by the three paths, these defiled ones do not exist. Form, life, and suffering, are only defiled. This must be determined in this way. Because it is said that "nine are two kinds," and because it is not included by the truth of the path and the unconditioned. Because it is included by the form aggregate, this is called having form, and it is said in order to show the reason for saying "having form." The saying "nine are two kinds" appears because it is included by the path and the non-path. If it is uniquely determined as defiled and undefiled, even if "nine are two kinds" is not said, it will not be thought of as two, will it? This is not just four kinds, but all nine are two kinds, in order to prevent believing that faith, etc., are completely undefiled. Some say that faith, etc., are only undefiled, and there are no defiled ones. In order to explain that meaning, scriptures are quoted, such as what the Blessed One said, etc., extensively. "In all aspects" refers to the aspects of small, medium, and large. "All" means all five. In this way, defiled dharmas are not like undefiled ones, not being present in ordinary beings, and faith, etc., are also not present in ordinary beings, because they have been negated. Therefore, if it is thought that it should be known that they are only undefiled, then these faiths, etc., cannot be the basis for the undefiled. What?
