It is said, "Starting from...". In the sutra, it is said that after the mind knows all dharmas, it will not be attached to characteristics, and it will not be attached to manifest signs. Since the mind is past, it cannot truly know all dharmas. Because the past is the cessation of action, or it is unspeakable, therefore the mind cannot truly know all dharmas. What is it then? Because it is present. It is the consciousness of the mind, therefore it is understood as "relying on that." If there, with the word of mind that has the nature of mind, the consciousness of mind is spoken of, isn't it? Because it is about the eye and so on, it is understood that "it is not." When the eye and so on are the basis of eye consciousness and so on, similarly, the mind is also the basis of the consciousness of mind. Or, the action of relying is closely attributed to the basis, that is, the action of the eye consciousness, seeing form, is closely attributed to the basis, the eye. The example there is, for example, "The child shouts happily," the action of relying, shouting, is closely attributed to the basis. As the sutra says, "What is done by eye consciousness," consciousness is its basis, it is the action of consciousness, not the action of the eye. Similarly, the sutra also shows that the action of relying is spoken of as the basis. To explain this meaning, other scriptural proofs are also spoken of, that is, the "Brahmin" and other extensive explanations spoken of in the sutra. If the object of the eye is visible, why did the World Honored One definitely say it is a door? Only from the door can it be seen by others, not from the object, therefore it is known that the eye door is seen by consciousness. There, seeing is simply called a door. In the sutra, seeing is the action of the eye, and seeing is called a door, therefore the eye can see, not consciousness. If the meaning of door and seeing are the same, then speaking is meaningless, so this is unreasonable. What is it? The eye sees all forms, that is seeing, it will be said like that. The mind is...

When it is said, "It is the door for knowing all dharmas," there also, only the past mind becomes the object of reliance for the mind's consciousness, so it is said to be the door. Because the past mind has no ability to know dharmas. Similarly, here also, because it is the basis for seeing forms, the eye is said to be the basis, but it does not have the ability to see, because it is matter. If consciousness sees, then with what does it cognize? If according to the eye seeing, then it is consciousness that sees form. If the name of consciousness can be established, if according to consciousness seeing, then because there is no other consciousness, there will be no name. If asked what difference is there in this, then, what difference is there between seeing and consciousness? With what... it is extensively explained, with what sees form, with that object, that is consciousness. If the object is seeing, then in sound etc. will the object also become seeing? Answer: It is said that the initial object is seeing, not all objects. For example, some wisdom is called seeing, extensively explained, such as the eight natures of seeing, which are both seeing and superior knowledge, and those other than those are only superior knowledge. Similarly, eye consciousness is both seeing and consciousness, while ear consciousness and so on are only consciousness. Others say, if etc. To this, when doing what is it said to be seeing? There is no other similar action other than consciousness, and without action, the agent itself is not reasonable, just like a traveler. This should not be disputed, extensively explained, if consciousness is called consciousness, then there is no agent or difference to it, because there is no action of consciousness other than consciousness. As it is said: All compounded things are momentary, not abiding, where is there action? Those that arise, that is, action is said to be the agent. Thus it is said. Similarly, to this also...

The meaning of "will become" is: If you ask "What is it?", the answer is: Even though the eye does not have the difference between the agent and the action, it also becomes the meaning of "the eye sees", which is to explain this. Some others say that the so-called "seeing" is the consciousness of the eye, and the so-called "seeing" is looking. Because it is its basis, it is said: The eye is the basis of the consciousness of the eye, so it is called "seeing". For example, the so-called "becoming the basis of proclamation" means that a famous example in the world is given in this regard. Although the sound is proclaimed, because it is its basis, it is said to strike the gong, and it is the same here. In this way, the word "eye" becomes cumbersome. If it is said that "because it is the basis of seeing, the eye sees", then, will it become "because it is the basis of consciousness, the eye knows"? It will not become like that, because the saying of the agent and the action is worldly, and in the world, consciousness is called seeing, not knowing. An example of making known is given, for example, when it arises, it will be said "seeing things", but it will not be said "knowing". It is also widely explained from the separate explanations that not only is it so in the world, but the scriptures also say that it is seeing. The so-called "meeting with the eye" means that the eye sees and appears to it, which is a synonym for becoming the object of its realm. If it is said that "because it is the basis of seeing, the eye sees", then, it should be said that by relying on what basis can consciousness know things? For it, there is no other function different from consciousness, therefore, it is said that "consciousness is merely existence". Some teachers say that it cannot be said that the eye sees merely because of proximity, because there are also similar eyes. Consciousness is not like that, therefore, it is said that consciousness knows things merely because of its existence, just as the sun makes the day appear. Like this, the place of light in the continents is daytime,
