Regarding "what is ceased by what," mentioning cessation by impermanence is to differentiate it from cessation that is not due to individual examination. Regarding "future, unarisen," it is because the present arising has not yet been obtained. Regarding "arisen in that way," it means arisen but not ceased. If it were merely "arisen," it would become past. If it were merely "not ceased," it would become future. To avoid this fault, both are mentioned. "Internal" means existing in one's own continuum, such as the eye and so on, and forms and so on. "External" means what does not belong to one's own continuum, but belongs to another's continuum, and what does not belong to any continuum. Alternatively, from the perspective of the sources (སྐྱེ་མཆེད།), the eye and so on are the five internal sources, and forms and so on are the six external sources. Therefore, although the eye and so on belong to another's continuum, they are internal forms. Although forms and so on belong to one's own continuum, they are external. Coarse means having obstruction, the nature of the ten sources. Subtle means without obstruction, non-manifest form. Alternatively, it is relative, such as the color of a bael fruit is coarse, and the color of an emblic myrobalan is subtle. If it is said that because it is relative, it is not established, because there is no definite existence. If it is said that, just as the color of an emblic myrobalan, relative to a bael fruit and a rowan tree, is both subtle and coarse, so it will not be definitely existent as slightly subtle and coarse, just like the near shore and the far shore, then it is not so, because there is difference due to dependence. Regarding "difference due to dependence," because of depending, there is dependence. Because of dependence, there is dependence, therefore there is difference, and because of dependence there is difference, it means it is other. Therefore, it is said, "What is coarse in dependence on something will never be subtle in dependence on that same thing." For example, just as the color of a bael fruit is coarse in dependence on a rowan tree, it is not subtle in dependence on the rowan tree. Regarding "like father and son," for example, hypothetically, in that very place, one is called father in relation to the son, and one is called son in relation to the father, and because there is difference due to dependence, it is not that the entities of father and son are not established.

And similar to... The bad is that which has afflictions, is obscured and unwholesome. The noble is that which does not have afflictions, is wholesome and unobscured and undeclared. The distant is the past and the future, because they are mutually separated by the present. The near is what is happening now, because it is close to both. For the aggregate of consciousness as well, it is similar to that, such as feeling, perception, volition, whatever it may be, past, future, happening now, or internal, external, coarse, subtle, bad, noble, whatever exists in the distant, or whatever exists in the near, all those are gathered together and are said to go into the category called the aggregate of consciousness. Among them, except for the coarse and the subtle, the past and so on are shown as they are. Therefore, it is said, "This is the difference." The coarse is what depends on the five senses, because what is depended on follows, and what is depended on is also coarse. The subtle is what arises from the mind, what arises from the mind is what is produced from the mind, meaning it depends on the mind faculty, because it is an unaccumulated and unobstructed support. Again, from... From the realms such as the desire realm, the feelings and so on of the lower realms are coarse, and the upper realms are subtle. Like this, in what has been done and in desire, the actions are coarse, the peak of existence is subtle, and what exists in others has both. The past and the future, even though they can be expressed with their own words, are exaggeratedly called distant, and because of dissatisfaction with not fully understanding the meaning of bad and noble, it is said like this. Venerable refers to the example, the abider Dharmatrāta. What is apprehended by the five senses refers to the five external sense bases. The other, which is subtle, refers to what is apprehended by the mind faculty, that is, the colored sense bases such as the eye and the non-manifesting. The bad is the unpleasant, referring to what does not agree with the mind. That is not what makes one unpleasant, because it is not what makes one pleased.
