The word "is" is illogical. Why? Because it speaks of one, that is, for each individual ordinary person residing in the Jambudvipa grove. Someone might ask, what is the difference here? If giving food to a few who are free from desire results in a lot of merit, then there would be a difference. If one thinks that giving food to many will result in a lot of merit, what is so surprising about that? Others say that a Bodhisattva is close to enlightenment, meaning close to enlightenment. From where is one a Bodhisattva? From where is one who engages in the work of names? That is what they think. This is not to say that the name does not correspond to the meaning, but rather that it is not related to the meaning, like the aggregates of grasping. So, is it not just said casually? Therefore, from whatever sutra or treatise, realization in the Jambudvipa grove is certainly the attainment of what is in accordance with the aspect of ascertainment, so it is said that it is not spoken casually. Here, the story of the Bodhisattva is told in detail: he went to inspect fields and villages, sat under the Jambudvipa tree, and generated the first dhyana. Therefore, it is reasonable that he is only a Bodhisattva. Because it is said in the sutra, "For a Bodhisattva, merit is immeasurable." If someone asks, if one gives to him, is it not more meritorious than giving to hundreds of thousands of Arhats? Therefore, it is said that ordinary people and those free from desire are similar. This is said in order to show, through similarity, that ordinary people are more superior than those free from desire, so it is said in this way. If someone asks, why say a hundred? Therefore, the "hundred" in the statement "better than giving food to a hundred non-Buddhist ascetics free from desire" refers to the initial situation. Like that, it is undeniable, it is like that. Because it is also like that from this cause, that is, thinking that the Bodhisattva residing in the Jambudvipa grove is merely an ordinary person, and not one who has obtained the root of virtue in accordance with the aspect of ascertainment.

Thus, among the non-Buddhists outside of those residing in Jambudvipa, the saying "there is" is widely spread. If it is not so, then, if one obtains something that is in accordance with the aspect of clear distinction, then, who gives food to a hundred people residing in Jambudvipa, rather than who gives to one who has entered the stream in order to realize the fruit of entering the stream, this giving is greater in fruit than that giving, thus making the one who has entered the stream more superior than those residing in Jambudvipa. What is the dependent origination of sentient beings like? That is the twelve links of dependent origination, divided into three parts, and so on. How does it abide? It has already been said that beings abide by food. Death and transference also occur when life is exhausted, and there are also cases where it is not due to the exhaustion of merit, these have already been explained in detail. Now it will be explained where the mind abides. Among the four existences, such as the intermediate state, only the death existence and the birth existence are momentary, therefore, it is necessary to explain in which moment of consciousness does death and transference and birth occur. Therefore, it is said, "Severing and connecting, free from desire, decay and death transference, and birth." Because there is the saying, "Cutting off the root with wrong view." Correctly explaining the root of virtue is based on wrong view, and wrong view is only associated with the consciousness. Because it is the nature of realization, what connects the root of virtue is doubt and correct view. Because "connection is due to the existence of doubtful view." Doubt is associated with displeasure, and displeasure is only a mental factor. Because "wisdom arising simultaneously with the five consciousnesses, there is no definite realization, therefore it is not a view." Correct view is also the nature of definite realization, that is only a mental factor, therefore only consciousness can connect the root of virtue. Freedom from desire from the realms and grounds exists in meditative equipoise, consciousness
