It does not depend solely on this, because its support is also the eye and so on. Furthermore, how does the statement "feeling arises under contact"—elaborating on the four—appear contradictory to both? This is a question arising from that perception. The mention of the Vaibhashikas is because some say that it is meant to indicate dissatisfaction with exceeding the dharma that produces. Because they are causes that arise together mutually, feeling is simultaneous with contact, just like other mental events. How can two things that arise together also be established as objects to be produced? The object that produces is the producer itself, capable of generating a result. The object to be produced is the very thing to be produced, meaning it does not become its own nature. If that is the case, the object that produces and the object to be produced are established for those that are born and not yet born, but not solely for those that are already born—this is the thought. Even for two things that arise together, it is seen that the object that produces and the object to be produced are not contradictory, so the question is how is it not established? Because there is no power, it means that what is already born and has attained its own nature cannot produce again, because what is already born is not an object to be produced again. Therefore, it does not have the power to produce it. To show this very point, it is said, "For a dharma that is already born, the dharma has no power." The statement "there is no difference from the proposition" means that whatever is closely held by the proposition is also grasped by the words of the reason, so there is no difference from the proposition. To further show this, it is elaborated by saying "two things that arise together," because they are mutually the object to be proven and the means of proving, so there is no difference from the proposition. If, because there is no difference from the proposition, this is not a means of proving, then it would follow that they produce each other, because from where does it come that here only one is capable of producing and the other is not? There is no cause of such a distinction here, so if that is the case, contact and feeling...

Because two things produce each other, dependent origination is contradicted. Therefore, two things arising simultaneously are not suitable as producer and produced. Saying "because it is asserted, there is no fault" is showing to prove with an established thing. Regarding the statement "this assertion is not accepted by the sutras," it is said in the Abhidharma: "Whatever arises simultaneously is mutually the result." This assertion is not accepted by the sutras, and to explain this, it is said in detail, "the feeling born from the contact of the gathering of the eye." Simultaneous arising is not reasonable, why? Because it contradicts the dharma of producing. The producer and the produced cannot be established simultaneously, just like a seed and a sprout. Not only are things that are before and after, but things that are simultaneous are also not necessarily established. For example, in detail, the eye and form, etc., are only simultaneously arising, and are the producers of eye consciousness, etc., and the simultaneously arising things are also the producers of things that arise from form, etc. Saying "what refutation is there" is because there is no reason for this, and there is no scriptural statement that "it is not so." Then, how are sprouts and shadows, lamps and lights? If there is no shadow and light in the first moment, then it will be understood as things that are before and after. But this is not the case, therefore, sprouts and lamps are the cause of shadows and lights arising simultaneously. Here, why not consider the previous collection of causes, that is, the lamp with light and the sprout with shadow, as the cause? Furthermore, because they follow movement, dwelling, and change, and because existence and non-existence are also their causes, sprouts and lamps are the producers of both shadow and light, but it cannot be proven that light is of the lamp, or shadow is of the sprout. If contact and feeling are definitely arising simultaneously, then with what

It is only because of contact that feeling arises, not because of feeling that contact arises, one should understand it that way. There is no such reason, therefore the differences are listed side by side. Some others say that feeling arises after contact, this is the view of the teacher Glorious Lotus. Like this, aggregation is the cause and effect of the sense faculty, object, and consciousness, but it is not simultaneous, because cause and effect arise at different times. Because cause and effect are not simultaneous, the two, sense faculty and object, are earlier than the consciousness that is their result. Immediately afterwards, in the second moment, there is consciousness, because it is the result of those. The aggregation of the three, this is explained extensively, because there the cause and effect are complete. In the third moment, this is because it is due to the consciousness that has become contact, so in the third moment there is feeling. If that is the case, etc., if feeling arises in the third moment, then there is no feeling at the time of contact. Not all consciousnesses will have feeling, because the consciousness that has become contact does not have feeling. Not all consciousnesses will be contact, because there is no contact at the time of feeling. After aggregation, at the time of feeling, any consciousness that arises is not contact, therefore all consciousnesses will not be contact. This is not what is desired, because contact and feeling exist in many places, so they will arise in all sentient beings, and it has been promised that all consciousnesses are contact. The feeling that exists in the later contact arises from the cause of the earlier contact, this is explained extensively, it is considered that everything has feeling and contact. It does not consider it to be due to simultaneous contact. Then what is it due to? Contact arises from the previous cause, it arises from the contact that is the previous cause of the sense faculty and object. Because if that is the case,
