pa'o. Non-form phenomena are mind and mental factors that necessarily arise together. The nature of all conditioned phenomena is said to be co-arising. This distinction is only in this. Because dependent arising does not contradict the meaning of repetition, and because arising from aggregation does not contradict, if dependent arising is constant here, then how can this distinction be established here? For example, eye consciousness arises dependent on the eye and form, because the repetition of dependent arising is impossible, and because arising from aggregation is impossible. Here, it is understood as the eye and form meeting, not in the sense of repetition. It is also not understood as those that can go arising from aggregation. So what is it? Only eye consciousness arises simultaneously. The meaning of what is necessarily apprehended is that if one says just anything, then it becomes not necessarily apprehended. If it is not necessarily apprehended, then actions and so on, other than ignorance and so on, are not prevented from being the cause of self and so on. For example, if there is an eye, then eye consciousness arises. Just as if it is not necessarily apprehended, it is understood that if there is form, then it arises. Therefore, for the meaning of necessarily apprehending, also if there is, then what arises, that itself has arisen, so its arising is not arising from another. Whatever has arisen, by whatever it arises, if that exists, then that arises, and if another exists, it is not. Thus, two kinds of distinctions are declared. In order to show that the two kinds of distinctions are the meaning of necessarily apprehending in other sutras, it is said, for example, "from another." If there is ignorance, and so on, is explained extensively. If it is said like that, then because ignorance arises, actions arise. If only ignorance exists, then those arise, and if another exists, it is not. Likewise, it should also be said to others. Or, if there is this limb, then this arises, and so on, is explained extensively. If there is ignorance, then actions arise, and because actions arise, consciousness also arises. Thus, the twelve limbs are shown in succession. Or, if there is a prior end, and so on, is explained extensively. If there is a prior end, then the present end arises. In order to show this meaning, this

It is said, "This being, this arises." In order to show that the present extreme birth leads to the future extreme birth, it is said, "This arising, this arises." Or, sometimes it happens that what is temporarily manifest is when afflicted actions arise as a consequence of ignorance. Through tradition, it is when merit and immovability arise, at which time ignorance is not manifestly the nature of the cause. Others say that karma existing by its own nature is manifest, and existing by habit or existing by attainment is through tradition. Regarding this, ignorance manifestly affects actions, etc., but explaining that it affects consciousness, etc., separately through tradition contradicts the discourse, because both are shown only in actions. Saying "This being, this arises" is to prevent those who speak of no cause, because without a cause there is no result. Saying "This arising, this arises" is to prevent those who speak of a permanent cause, because only what arises is a cause, and what has not arisen is not a cause. For this kind of conceptualization, "This being, this arises" is meaningless. Why? Because the statement "This arising, this arises" eliminates both claims and completely encompasses the impermanent cause. In order to refute this refutation, "Then for some" is stated in detail. The word "etc." in "actions, etc." includes consciousness, name, and form, etc. The word "etc." in "ignorance, etc., arising" includes actions and consciousness, etc. To eliminate that conceptualization is to negate it. What is meant by "What arising, what arises" is that actions, etc., arise because ignorance arises. What is meant by "This being, this arises" is that actions, etc., arise because ignorance itself exists, but it is not so if there exists a self or other that serves as a basis. Therefore, the previous term is not meaningless, and it should be stated similarly for others. The teachers say, etc. What? In order.

In order to know the abandonment, and in order to know the arising, in order to show that, if ignorance is not abandoned, it will be widely explained. Regarding abiding and arising, etc., the teacher Palena said that in order to truly show abiding in order, and in order to truly show arising, two terms were spoken. In order to show that, it is said that as long as there is a cause of cause, there will be a continuous arising of the fruit. This is shown by the first term. Because the cause itself arises, the fruit will arise, which is shown in the second term. If it is made the power of arising, then, here, monks, I will show you dependent arising, thus widely making the power of dependent arising. Since the power of abiding is not made, what opportunity is there for the words of abiding? Different order will be widely explained, the arising of abiding is prior. Therefore, previously only this arising, therefore that arises, should be said, and later this existing, therefore this arises, should be used to express abiding, or even if the order is exceeded, the necessity should be expressed. It is also said that this was said by that venerable one. If the meaning of the sutra is like that, then it will be widely explained, this existing, therefore, is because there is fruit. This refers to the cause, because there is no doubt, so it will not arise, it will be said like that, the Blessed One will not say something that causes doubt. If there is a fruit, the cause will not be destroyed later, because arising and destruction are the same, just like the high and low of a balance. It is said like this because it is admitted that cause and effect are not simultaneous. In that case, the order is good, because destruction is the forerunner of arising, and that was also previously shown. Otherwise, if destruction was previously shown, therefore, if asked what is dependent arising, answering, for example, this existing, therefore this arises, from where can it be concluded that if there is a fruit, the cause will be destroyed?
