It is because others do not experience it in the same way. It is not the case that others experience the ripening of actions done by others, for if that were so, one would encounter what has not been done, and what has been done would be wasted. Why is it not that the fruit of ownership is experienced as showing sentient beings? Because it arises from common actions. If that is experienced, there is no encountering what has not been done and no wasting what has been done. The similar cause is like the cause. Regarding that, for the time being, the result of the co-equal cause is similar to the cause and to virtue and non-virtue without being explicitly stated, which is taken to depend on the similarity of kind and one's own ground. Regarding the pervasive cause, it depends on afflictions and the similarity of one's own ground. If the result of the pervasive cause is also similar, then what? Why is it not accepted only as a co-equal cause? Because it is similar to the result from the ground and afflictions. For example, acting in desire, the result of the pervasive cause is only the affliction of acting in desire. It is not like the co-equal cause, nor is it from form, because all five forms are causes. The co-equal cause is also similar to the result from form. Among them, whatever pervasive cause is not only from the ground and afflictions, but is also similar to the result from form, that is precisely what is acknowledged as the co-equal cause. For that very reason, it is stated in detail, "Whatever is the co-equal cause of whatever, that." What is not pervasive is only the co-equal cause. The pervasive cause of a different kind is only the pervasive cause. What is both is only the pervasive cause of one's own kind. Thus, considering the third case, it is said, "Whatever is similar from form as well, that is precisely what is acknowledged as the co-equal cause." The fourth is "apart from those forms," which means apart from the dharmas explained in the three cases. When dissimilar characteristics arise in the wake of virtue and so on, the former is not its co-equal cause or pervasive cause. Separation means exhaustion by wisdom. What is called attainment is the word.
