Wisdom considers it impossible for something that was not originally produced to be produced. Therefore, the cessation that arises from individual analysis is not itself impermanent. Moreover, since wisdom does not have the power to do this, it is also impossible. If it is said that only the arising of fire is nirvana, and not another entity as the Dharma Abhidharma proponents say. If that is the case, then how should the words of the sutras be interpreted, since the past and present sufferings that have arisen, because they have already arisen, cannot not arise? If one does not admit that nirvana is a substance, one cannot correctly interpret this, I think. The five faculties refer to faith and so on. Complete reliance refers to the path of seeing. Habituation refers to the path of meditation. Repeated practice refers to the path of no more learning. Regarding the so-called abandonment of afflictions that take it as their object, it is to show that the past and present sufferings that have arisen are not actually abandoned by their own nature. What is the desire and attachment for form, desire refers to wanting, attachment refers to clinging. Thus, abandoning the afflictions that take it as their object is abandoning suffering. Moreover, even if one does not consider nirvana to be a substance, one can abandon the suffering of the three times. How is it abandoned? Through the power of individual analysis, the potential growth of afflictions that take the past, future, and present sufferings as their object will never arise. The word "also" in it refers to the difference in recitation. The so-called "the only way is this" means that only by abandoning the afflictions that take it as their object is it abandoned, because through the power of individual analysis, the potential growth of afflictions that take the past, future, and present afflictions as their object will never arise. Or, "the intention is" refers to explaining the intention that afflictions are abandoned by their own nature in the difference of recitation. What arises in the previous life refers to the previous life. What arises in this life refers to this life. Explaining it in this way clearly shows that the past and present afflictions that have arisen are momentary. How should this be understood? Just as the sutra says, "For those who have fully practiced desire." Those who have fully practiced desire are those who will have doubts.

The meaning of "those that change" is just that. It is not permissible to be attached to a single moment of past and future time. It should be understood that this refers to past and present lifetimes. Similarly, here too, it should be connected with all the defilements of past and present lives, and not just a single moment. Those eighteen kinds of craving, monks, if you think "I am," you will have thoughts like "I am like this," and "I am like this," "I am not like that," "I am good," and "Now I am bad." For the thought of "it will happen," you will think "it will happen," and for the thought of "it will not happen," and the thoughts of "it will happen like this," "it will happen like that," "it will not happen like that," will arise. For the thought of "become like that," you will think "it will become like that," and for the thoughts of "become like this," "become like that," "do not become like that," "even if it becomes like that, what does it matter," "even if it becomes like this, what does it matter," "even if it becomes like that, what does it matter," "even if it does not become like that, what does it matter," will arise. The differences between these will be explained later. The so-called "these two defilements" refer to the defilements of past and present lives. The so-called "for this continuum" refers to what is happening now. The so-called "seed-like thing" refers to the ability. Like this, these two defilements can also enable the continuum to produce future defilements, which is called "establishing the seed-like thing here." If the seed-like thing is abandoned, then these two defilements of past and present lives are also abandoned. As long as the seed that it has established remains, even if the defilements cease, it cannot be said that they have been abandoned. If the seed-like thing that it has established is abandoned, then it can be said that it has been abandoned. For example, for the phrase "the fully ripened result has been exhausted," even if the karma has ceased beforehand, as long as the fruit of the fully ripened result that it has established has not been exhausted, it cannot be said that it has been exhausted, but if it is exhausted, then it can be said that
