How does it transform? In the world, those who attain the desired meaning through ability are known as fruits. Nirvana is also attained through the power of the noble path, so it is called its fruit. The absence of a cause means that it cannot be attained, because the six causes of the noble path that attain it are not like that. One engages in cultivating the path by keeping only nirvana in mind, not by keeping its attainment in mind. Therefore, nirvana itself is the primary fruit of the path, not its attainment, because the path is not entered into for the sake of attaining it. Therefore, the Bhagavan only spoke of abandonment as the fruit of a renunciate, not the attainment of abandonment. Furthermore, if there is no lordly fruit, what then? This is explained in detail, and it will be shown as follows: Because it is the cause of action, it must be accepted that this has a lordly fruit. If it is not accepted, it contradicts the acceptance of being the cause of action. There is no contradiction, because it is the cause of action by its nature of not obstructing arising. For the past and present occurrences, the production and holding of the fruit are certain. Because the future is separated from the present time, it does not have that power, so it is not accepted that this has a fruit. 'This does not have a fruit,' which is explained in detail: 'The five hold the fruit in the present, the two are the producers.' If only those summarized by time are said to hold and produce fruit, then for the unconditioned, since there is no present, it is impossible to hold fruit. Since there is no past or present, it is impossible to produce fruit. Therefore, although there are no causes and fruits in this according to real conceptualization, nevertheless, according to imputed conceptualization, they are designated as causes and fruits. Saying 'not a cause' is spoken by way of synonyms, meaning that it is spoken in terms of meaning, not in terms of sound. How so? Because 'what are the causes and what are the conditions' here, all the causes and conditions of form and so on have been stated, and they have also been established as impermanent without distinction, therefore it will be said that 'there is no permanent cause.'

If someone says that the Sautrāntika school believes that as the cause of the efficient cause, it is not only unchanging, but also not the object-condition of consciousness, because causes and conditions are proven to be non-different and all impermanent. The Sautrāntikas say that because of the distinction of "arising," it changes. Those things that are merely the object of consciousness and not the producer are not contradictory to permanence. The Vaibhāṣikas say that causes are also the same, because all efficient causes are not producers, as has been explained before. In the sutra called "Four Conditions," it is only said to be the object-condition, but in no sutra is it said to be the non-obstructing cause. Or, the sutra says that the unconditioned is the object-condition, but it does not say that it is the non-obstructing cause. Therefore, the sutra cannot prove that the unconditioned is the entity of the cause. If it is said that most of the sutras have been lost, it is said because the loss of the fundamental collection is kept in mind. Even if the sutra is lost, it should be known that it is not mentioned in other sutras because it is prohibited. Even if it is not prohibited, it should be known that it is not mentioned because all the sutras are not completely followed. Otherwise, it is not so. Therefore, it cannot be definitely said that it is not mentioned because it is not prohibited and the fundamental collection has been lost. Others say that because "producer" appears, the Blessed One uses this to indicate that the unconditioned is both cause and condition. If it were not so, it would be said, "Which are the causes of form, and which are the conditions, those are also impermanent." Therefore, there is the unconditioned as a cause, and there is the unconditioned as a condition, but some are not producers. There are two types of causes, namely, the producer and the non-contradictory, which has been considered the efficient cause. Also, what is this called "separation"? If a well-known thing is used to determine an unknown thing, then here both are unknown things, so...
