Oh, how should it be recited then? It is recited as, "Except for the arising, aging, abiding, and impermanence of the view of the perishable aggregate." Like this, the power of these arising, etc., does not generate mind, but according to its own corresponding nature. Therefore, do not recite saying "of the dharmas that are similar to it," saying "the Kashmiris say" is to let people know, should they also recite it that way? There is not the slightest reason for this. For the time being, whatever is the cause by way of a co-emergent cause is also co-emergent, such as mental factors, etc. Whatever is the cause by way of a co-emergent cause is not co-emergent, this situation does not exist. Whatever arises together with something is definitely not the cause by way of a co-emergent cause, for example, the arising, etc., of corresponding nature, etc., will become the co-emergent of dharma, but it is not the cause by way of a co-emergent cause, because they are distant, so they do not act on dharma. Those are mutual, the arising, etc., of corresponding nature, etc., are also co-emergent, but they are not the cause by way of a co-emergent cause, because they enter into one dharma. Following the mind are mental factors, etc., as well as meditative concentration and the uncontaminated samādhis, the nature of those, that is, the respective natures of arising, etc., because the action is distant, they are not the co-emergent cause of the mind, nor are they mutual, because they enter into one dharma. Regarding "form as a cause, with obstruction and mutual," form as a cause of subtle particles, eight realities, etc., and taste, etc., those are co-emergent, but they are not the co-emergent cause. A slight non-obstruction refers to the Prātimokṣa vows, form as a cause, non-obstructive, the seven types gathered by meditative concentration and uncontaminated samādhi are the cause by way of mutual co-emergent causes.

Therefore, it is because of following the mind. In the saying, "All that arises together with the elements," whether obstructed or unobstructed is acceptable. However, form created by a cause arises together with elements of whatever nature. But it is not a cause of simultaneous arising, because form created by a cause is virtuous and non-virtuous, while the elements are unspecified, hence the fruits are different. It is not a cause of simultaneous arising. The saying, "Also those attainments that possess attainment and are born together," arises for this reason. Why? Because it is said, "Not because there are many results of different maturation and similar cause." This shows that the cause of simultaneous arising is not in accordance with the Dharma, or that following the mind is not in accordance with the Dharma. Thus, the result of attainments is only that which is done by a person, but the mind that is similar to the uninterrupted path also has the result of separation. The maturation of the mind is different, and the attainments of that are different, because they are what leads and what perfects. The result of similar cause of attainments is always only attainments, while the result of similar cause of the mind is sometimes the mind, such as virtue. In the saying, "Those are also not of the nature of acting together with the mind," if it is shown that those born together are also not of that nature, then what need is there to mention those that arise earlier and later? The saying, "All of those are acceptable," is a brief explanation of how the cause of simultaneous arising is a cause, and that it is also simultaneous arising. However, among things known as cause and effect, such as seeds, it refers to seeds, sprouts, leaves, fuzz, tree trunks, etc., or to seeds, milk, cheese, etc. Among these, the seed is first, the sprout is later; the milk is first, the cheese is later. The pounding is first, the sound is later. This principle is not obvious, because cause and effect arise together, and are mutually cause and effect.

How the name 'co-emergent' is extensively explained. In the states of being born and not being born, co-emergent phenomena are not reasonably considered as cause and effect, because their self-nature is established therein, and because they are non-existent. Therefore, it is said that they should be spoken of. Also, because cause and effect are seen in co-emergence, the name 'for example' is extensively spoken. How should it be understood that light is the cause of a lamp? This is because it follows the increase and decrease of the lamp, and because it follows its abiding, and because those who seek light approach the lamp, and because those who hate it cause the lamp to be extinguished. And how is the lamp the cause of light? This name is extensively explained. Thus it is said, 'That which is made of two is to be known,' but by this, one cannot know co-emergent phenomena as cause and things with cause, because of investigation, this is to show. The assembly that came before is the meeting of oil, wick, fire, and so on. How is the cause of the first moment with light oil, wick, and fire? Likewise, the cause of the second moment of the lamp with light, and so on, is only the meeting of oil, wick, and fire, and not the lamp of light. Likewise, the assembly that came before is only the cause of the sprout with shadow, and not the sprout of shadow. Likewise, the cause of the first sprout with shadow is the assembly of field and seed, and so on, and it should be said that it is also the same for the second and so on. If co-emergent phenomena are not cause and things with cause, then the name 'if so' is extensively explained. 'Having those, therefore,' means that whatever fruit exists among those that exist and do not exist, that is what has those. The thing that has those is the very thing that has those. 'Certainly' means that whatever dharma exists, that is the meaning of cause. Whatever fruit certainly exists is not arbitrary.
