It is because of ability. Or, what is the obstacle to this? If there are some obstacles that are doing things even after the work is done, then it will become a situation where nothing is done. Obstacles do not exist, obstacles do exist, and those are aging and impermanence. In this way, a small obstacle is a large force. If it is more powerful than existence, then existence itself will not do its own work from the beginning, because those have hindered it. Existence was powerful before, but later it is not powerful, and this is difficult to believe. In that case, aging and impermanence should also be that they did not have power before, but later they have power, and this cannot be understood. If the action of existence is reversed, this sentence explains in detail that existence exists through being the opposite of non-existence. If the action of existence disappears, then aging and impermanence themselves also do not exist, and the dharma on which aging and impermanence themselves depend also does not exist. Those exist because existence has completely grasped the action, and because that disappears, those must not exist, so how can one think that aging and impermanence, which do not exist themselves, can do anything? If the non-existence of dharma is itself cessation, then after it ceases, where can it act? Or it is thought that aging and impermanence themselves have no effect at all. Why? Therefore, it is said, "Because existence is completely grasped," because existence is completely grasped, the dharma does not disappear as soon as it arises. If that existence abandons it, then what has not been grasped by existence will certainly not exist because of its own nature. That is the destruction here, which is non-existence. For the time being, for a dharma that has arisen, this sentence explains in detail that there is no non-destruction for what has arisen, and this sentence should be said without admitting it. For one aging, etc., aging means similar to destruction, the state of arising changes to another state, and changes occur. From then on, it is not allowed to change to another form. If

If it is that very one, how can it become other? If it becomes other, how can it be like that very one? Being as it is and becoming other, these two are contradictory. 'As it is' means extensively occurring, referring to that kind of form and not losing that kind of nature. If that is the case, then aging will not be established. Furthermore, if it changes, then it is as it is, just like the two, Deva-datta and Yajña-datta. Therefore, it is not reasonable to say that a thing ages in a single moment. What then? It is only reasonable in a continuum. Some other schools say that this is extensively occurring, because upon encountering the cause of destruction, it is destroyed by impermanence itself. And abiding is what makes it abide without depending on other causes, therefore the actions of abiding and impermanence are at different times. If the cause of destruction itself destroys, then if there is a cause of destruction, it will be destroyed, and if there is not, it will not be destroyed. But impermanence itself does not exist, therefore impermanence is considered meaningless, because like the cause of destruction, its ability to destroy is not seen. Similarly, it should be said for gods and ablutions as well. Since mind and mental factors are accepted as momentary, therefore for their impermanence, the impermanence of mind and mental factors does not depend on the cause of destruction, therefore they are destroyed because of their own destruction. If it is not like that, then their being momentary will be harmed. Therefore, it would be a fault if abiding and impermanence do not act at different times, and mind and mental factors would become simultaneously abiding and destroying. Therefore, in the continuum, the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, etc., will occur. If that is the case, then in this sutra, these three are the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, and what is extensively said will be well quoted. Since arising and so on are not contradictory to the continuum, therefore these characteristics of conditioned phenomena are taught on the continuum, and that will be well quoted. If it is taught from the perspective of a moment, then it is not, as it has been said.
