will be shown, these are to clarify the nature of conditioned phenomena, therefore they are the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. Conversely, what is absent is what is not. Among them, because of arising, it is said that the dharma produces, because this causes all included things to arise. Abiding is to cause to abide, meaning that what has arisen does not cease, and the cause that is close to abiding without hindrance to projecting the fruit is abiding, therefore it is said to cause to abide. Aging is to cause to age, meaning to weaken strength, which means to abide in a state that is clearly tending towards destruction. Impermanence itself is to cause destruction, the special cause that arises simultaneously to prevent the accumulation of actions is impermanence itself. The sutra says these three, the sutra speaks of the three characteristics of conditioned phenomena. If there are four characteristics of conditioned phenomena, then the fourth should also be mentioned there, but it is not mentioned, and the sutra is also a valid measure, therefore there are only three characteristics of conditioned phenomena. Someone thinks it is impossible not to show the fourth and asks: What was not said there? Abiding is taking the difference of changing into other itself, therefore it is thought to be taken as the characteristic of conditioned phenomena. Abiding and changing into other, thinking that it is abiding and changing into other, therefore it is said in detail "then". This is just another name for aging, and so on. Just as things arise, the synonym of arising arises, and things perish, which is the destruction of impermanence itself, similarly, in order for things to abide in other states, therefore abiding changing into other itself is another name for aging. In the sutra, because of mental origination, the activities of which dharmas arise extensively, what is shown in the sutra is intentional, not a characteristic, and what arises from Abhidharma is a characteristic, not intentional, therefore there is no contradiction. Also, what is the change of time? It is what changes from the future to the present, and from the present to the past.

In the extensive explanation called "Doers," how should one understand that birth and so forth have the power to change time? If they did not exist, how would one understand the past and future as conditioned phenomena? Even the unconditioned exists in its own nature. Therefore, because of existence, it is not understood as conditioned, for that is delusion. Because existence relies on the aspects of both conditioned and unconditioned phenomena, those to be tamed might understand the unconditioned as conditioned, or the conditioned as unconditioned. To avoid unnecessary doubt, that was not mentioned. Those who do not confuse conditioned phenomena are said in the sutras to be the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. In statements such as "existence and aging are summarized," what is the necessity here? Therefore, it is explained in detail that these are the basis of attachment within. Among these, that is, among these doers, existence is the basis of attachment, the place of attachment. In order not to be attached to existence, the Blessed One showed this existence, which is like wealth, together with Black-Eared Mother (Rātri), that is, together with Auspicious Mother. Because just as auspiciousness and non-auspiciousness are, this is also related to impermanence, one should not be attached to it. If it were not so, then only change would be spoken of, because here, the word "existence" would not find any meaning. If it is shown in this way, then the existence of conditioned phenomena appears as change itself, but the existence of unconditioned phenomena does not have that. If it is said that because birth and so forth are also conditioned phenomena like the root dharma, there will also be other births and so forth, then in the extensive explanation of "birth of birth and so forth," some, in order to grasp definitively, utter the sound "also," saying, "For them, only they exist; for them, there are no others." If the Blessed One spoke of any similar characteristics, it is because birth and so forth are conditioned phenomena, and the birth of birth and so forth is also the nature of birth and so forth. Conditioned phenomena also arise
