Regarding the statement "for the sake of obstructing," is it true that when other contrary conditions cause the mind not to arise? The contrary condition is only the mind of absorption that is contrary to the arising of other minds, and not others. It is also unreasonable to completely cut off the arising of the mind from the cause of arising, and the mind is also the cause of the arising of the mind. Therefore, just as wind is to a lamp, should we also acknowledge that there is another unique cause for the mind not to arise? Therefore, it is said, "for the sake of moving the support that is contrary to it," meaning for the sake of generating the support that is contrary to the arising of the mind. Just as a lamp depends on a wick, the arising of the mind depends on the support, so it is not contradictory that the mind does not arise due to the deterioration of the support. The deterioration of the support is caused by the mind of absorption, therefore it is said that the mind of absorption alone is the obstructer. Regarding the term "absorption," the non-arising of the mind is called absorption. What is the proximate cause for establishing it? If there is no proximate cause, then it cannot be established at all. Those minds that do not arise, those are the proximate causes of non-arising. If you say, how can those that do not exist because they have not arisen be suitable as proximate causes for establishment? Even if they are future, those that abide in the mind are indeed the proximate causes of non-arising. For example: When the perfect Buddhas have not appeared, and the Hearers have also perished, the wisdom of the Solitary Buddhas arises without dependence. There, only the future Buddhas abiding in the mind do not appear, and the unborn Buddhas also do not exist. The Hearers are also said to have perished only those that abide in the mind and have been destroyed, and not the present ones. Therefore, although the past and future do not exist, it is not contradictory that those that have perished and those that have not arisen, as long as they abide in the mind, are the proximate causes for establishment. If absorption is merely the non-arising of the future mind, and that is also non-existent, then will it become unconditioned? Therefore, it is said in detail, "even that mere non-arising."

So! Here, based on what is it called conditioned? There is not even a little bit of the establishment of conditioned phenomena by merely not entering into meditative absorption. However, since entering into meditative absorption has no before or after, merely not entering into meditative absorption establishes entering into meditative absorption as conditioned. Alternatively, the so-called "basis" means arising extensively. Previously, from the perspective of terminology, merely the mind not entering into meditative absorption is the meditative absorption itself, and it is said to be conditioned. Now, because of the power of entering into meditative absorption, the basis of obtaining another state is entering into meditative absorption. Therefore, because it is a difference in state, entering into meditative absorption is conditioned. It will be explained in this way. The so-called "non-perception" is also the same. Just as the cessation meditative absorption is merely imputed, so is the non-perception state. For a yogi, if the force of the aspiration prayer breaks the meditative absorption, the mind and dharmas will arise, relying on the consciousness of the mind. For a non-perception practitioner, due to the exhaustion of the ripening result of karma, death and rebirth will occur. The meditative absorptions have been explained. The so-called "life" is "longevity." This is a statement of names, not a definition, because the definition has been abandoned in the scriptures. Therefore, in the Dharma Collection, it is said in this way. If a name is established, it can be used as a definition. This is established like life, so it cannot determine the meaning of life. Therefore, what is the dharma called "longevity" will be extensively explained. The so-called "warmth" and "consciousness" are what the basis of consciousness is. This is explained from the perspective of the result. The so-called "cause of existence" is an explanation of "becoming the basis." It will be explained in this way: as long as life exists, these two will continuously exist. Now, "becoming the basis of that life" will appear, which is the meaning of "what is the cause of existence?" "Warmth and consciousness are those themselves" will appear, life depends on them for existence. Then, it will be extensively explained, those that exist in mutual dependence are those that exist in mutual dependence.
