Since the attainment of the great among the great is only an image of the great among the great, if there is no difference in all attainments, then how can the differences in the arising of small, medium, and large afflictions of Devadatta and others be established? If there is no difference in the cause, then the difference in the result is unreasonable, they say. Mentioning those who possess all bondages is because for those who are free from bondages, there is an opportunity for afflictions to arise with differences such as small. If there is no difference in attainment, but the arising of afflictions differs due to other reasons such as habituation, thinking that there is no fault in this, therefore it is said, "From that, it becomes the difference of those." Habituation or becoming the nature of small, medium, and large from other aspects, depends solely on the arising of those. From what other cause should the difference of afflictions be fully examined? It depends solely on the afflictions arising as small, medium, and large. What is the need to examine the attainment becoming another meaning? Who says that? This will be explained in detail, the cause of establishment is the meaning of the definite cause. For the time being, ordinary beings possess worldly minds, so it is meaningless to distinguish them. When noble ones directly realize the supramundane path, they possess supramundane minds, therefore it is said, "Possessing worldly minds." Mind is mind itself. At the time of directly realizing the path, even without attainment, it is possible to establish the difference between noble ones and ordinary beings, because the path itself is the cause of establishment. For those who possess worldly minds, without attainment, it cannot be established that "these are noble ones, these are ordinary beings." If it is not considered in this way, it is also unreasonable. Therefore, it must be determined that possessing the attainment of the uncontaminated path and not possessing it is the cause of establishing noble ones and ordinary beings. Master Vasubandhu said that the law of substance is impossible, so saying it is unreasonable does not exist, attainment is the dharma that has already been attained.

Because it is the cause of not wasting. The cause of not wasting the Dharma that has already been obtained is a synonym for the "cause of existence itself." By the power of attainment, it can be expressed that these Dharmas have ceased, and even if they have not arisen, they exist. This is also a sign of the knowledge of the thought, "This is this," that is, the knowledge of the association of other Dharmas such as desire, "This is a relation of this," arises only when the attainment that has become a sign exists. If it is not so, when desire and so on cease or have not arisen, the attainment that has become a sign of the knowledge of association does not exist, and they will not become those knowledges of association. It is said that this should be changed from the difference between afflictions that have been abandoned and not abandoned. For the things that have been abandoned and not abandoned, the abandoned and not abandoned afflictions themselves are the difference. Among them, the abandonment of afflictions itself means that the seeds of afflictions have been uprooted from the root, and afflictions will not arise again. The non-abandonment of afflictions itself means that the seeds of afflictions have not been uprooted from the root, and afflictions may arise again. In this way, even those who have worldly minds, for those who have no seeds, so the Dharma that afflictions will never arise, they are the noble ones. For those whose seeds have not been cut off, so they will arise again, they are the ordinary people, so the establishment is established. There will be statements such as "These people have abandoned afflictions." Like this, among the noble ones and ordinary people, from where can it be seen that "These people have abandoned afflictions," "These people have not abandoned afflictions"? There is not even a little sign of abandoning and not abandoning afflictions. Therefore, because it is not possible to recognize the abandonment and non-abandonment of afflictions themselves, the establishment of "These people are noble ones with worldly minds," "These people are ordinary people" does not exist. If attainment exists, then the statement "These people have abandoned afflictions," "These people have not abandoned afflictions" will also occur here. If you ask how this is? Therefore, it is said, "Because of separation and non-separation from it."
