Because it does not possess the same characteristics as the mind, it would be a fault to be without mind, because it does not possess the same characteristics as its own nature. Therefore, it is called not possessing mind and mental factors. Because the mind possesses the same characteristics as the mental factors, it will not be a fault to be without possession. If so, is it necessary to explain these teachings? To this, it is said, "For the time being." "To this" is for the purpose of special distinction, that is, to this, to those. The word "for the time being" is for the purpose of order, because it cannot be explained all at once. "Attainment" is the word of the teaching. "Gaining and possessing" is the word of explanation. Although it is thought that the words attainment, gaining, and possessing have the same meaning, however, this word gaining and possessing is specifically pointed out. What are the attainments of those who have not attained before, this is specifically pointed out, because the arising of the first attainment in the morning is gaining. What is possessed among the attainments of those who have already attained, which exists in the second moment and so on, because universal following is possession. Therefore, if so, the word attainment applies to gaining and possessing. For that very reason, it is said in detail, "Attainment is of two kinds." What is unattained, that is, what has never been attained before, and what is completely lost, that is, having attained and moved the place, and having abandoned it through complete loss and so on, the first attainment in the morning is gaining. In the second moment and so on, it is possessing after attaining. The opposite is to what is unattained and so on, those who have not attained before are not gaining. Those who have lost attainment are not possessing. Thus, the opposite of attainment is unattainment. For that very reason, the state of individual beings is called not having gained the Dharma of the noble ones, but not not possessing. What are these attainments and non-attainments, are they fabricated? Are they unfabricated? Do they appear as sentient beings? Do they not appear as sentient beings? Do they belong to the continuum? Do they not belong to the continuum? This is a question asked without special distinction. For the time being, let us speak in terms of the fabricated,

Those that are obtained and not obtained belong to one's own continuum. Here, it should be determined that it does not belong to the continuum of others, nor does it belong to those that do not belong to the continuum. If one merely says "one's own," then it will also be associated with things like clothing that are not sentient beings. If one says "belonging to the continuum," then it will also be associated with those belonging to the continuum of others. Therefore, in order to avoid both faults, it is said, "in order to avoid becoming a fault" and "belonging to the continuum." There is no association with the aggregates of others, etc. If there is association with them, then it will be confused with ordinary beings, noble ones, learners, non-learners, those free from desire, those not free from desire, those who have completely severed the roots of virtue, and those who have not completely severed the roots of virtue, etc. There is no association with non-sentient beings such as clothing and ornaments, because they are common, and attainment is uncommon. Therefore, attainment does not belong to those that do not belong to the continuum. The term "unconditioned" will be explained in detail, indicating that it does not belong to the two cessations of discrimination and non-discrimination. If someone asks, what person is associated with what cessation? Therefore, it is said, "with the cessation of non-discrimination." In order to clarify this, it is said in detail, "of that." The word "say" is because association with a real entity is unreasonable, and it also shows dissatisfaction that neither of the two cessations are real entities. Regarding "with the cessation of discrimination," it will be explained in detail that those who are associated with all bonds are also those, and those who are in the first moment are also those, those are those who are associated with all bonds and are in the first moment. Those who have abandoned those, those are those who are apart from those who are associated with all bonds and are in the first moment. What are those? Therefore, it is said, "all noble ones," those are associated with the cessation of discrimination.
