At the peak, there is only investigation, while in the middle, both are present. In terms of the difference in types, both are present in all realms, but it is not the case that they are only present in the desire realm and the first dhyana. The teacher Samantabhadra again said that the coarseness and subtlety of the mind are the coarseness and subtlety of the mind itself. It is not said in this way, so how should it be said? Coarse mind is the coarseness that exists in the mind. Its entity is the coarse mind itself. Subtle mind is also the same, so it is said. Among coarseness and subtlety themselves, coarseness and subtlety themselves, that is, thinking and investigation, are not reasonably different from each other or from the nature of the mind, because they are not different in their own essence. This means that the mind itself is subtle at some times and coarse at other times, and there is no other dharma of coarseness or subtlety in it. Or it is thought that feeling and perception should also become thinking and investigation, because feeling is coarse and perception is subtle. If difference is seen in what has become different in nature, it is not because of coarseness and subtlety themselves, because coarseness and subtlety can also be seen in the same nature. Others say that such a situation will occur. Regarding the manifestation of speech, the manifestation of speech arising completely is the manifestation of speech. Thinking and investigation are considered to be manifest, from where does this come? Therefore, it is said, "After examining and investigating." The meaning of "After examining and investigating" is to say this or that. Among them, which are coarse? The meaning of lightness is that coarse speech enters. Subtlety is the removal. If it is thought in this way, then thinking and investigation will be acknowledged as nominally existent and conventionally existent, because the collection of mind and mental factors is the cause of speech arising completely, and the coarseness and subtlety of speech cannot arise simultaneously. If the mind is one, it will be elaborated, that is, if one acknowledges what the Sautrantikas say, "How can one mind possess both?", then...
