Therefore, that which is similar to what has been said is just the similar itself that has been said. Because expression would become meaningless, it is not said again. Furthermore, what is meant by "here" is that the subtle particles possess eight substances. What is meant by "only substance is taken as substance" is that the term "substance" only expresses the own characteristics of earth, etc., and not the own characteristics of the sense-spheres. However, what is meant by "substance of the sense-spheres" is that which is the one among the many own characteristics of the sense-spheres, such as being divided by twenty kinds of distinctions is the sense-sphere of form, and so on. If only substance is established as substance, then, if only substance is referred to by the term substance, and not the own characteristics of the sense-spheres, then it is so, and it is said to be too little, because that subtle particle also has other different substances other than eight, nine, ten, and eleven, because shape is also an accumulation of subtle particles. For heaviness and lightness, any kind of earth, and smoothness and roughness, there must inevitably be one of them, because composite form is not devoid of heaviness and lightness, or smoothness and roughness. Cold, hunger, and thirst are impossible for all subtle particles, so it is said "for some." However, regarding the sense-spheres, it will be explained in detail, if the own characteristics of the sense-spheres are taken as dominant and spoken of as substance, and not the own characteristics of substance. What is meant by "possessing four substances" is, why? Therefore, it is said that not only is it transformed from the elements, but also all the elements are the sense-sphere of touch. What is meant by "what is the basis" refers to earth, etc., which is the basis of form that is the cause. What is meant by "what is the supported" refers to the form that is the cause. In this way, shape belongs to the sense-sphere of form, while heaviness, etc., belong to the sense-sphere of touch, therefore it is not said to be too little or too much. If the basis...

Even if it becomes grasping only substance as substance, it will not be liberated from multiplicity. Why? Because it has been said, "The forms that are made into causes," and so on. Whichever group of four elements is the basis of one form that is made into a cause, it is not the basis of another that is made into a cause. What is it then? Its basis is another group of four elements, which is the established tenet. The substances of the elements are many, and they will undoubtedly arise together with each other like the forms that are made into causes. Here, "grasping substance from the category" refers to the category of earth and so on. The other four elements also do not go beyond the category to which one of the four elements belongs, explaining its cause: the other four elements also do not go beyond the category of earth and so on. The four elements that are the basis of each of the eyes and so on do not go beyond the category of the four elements in relation to each other. Therefore, it is said that the four great elements are the same group of four elements. Striving in this way appears extensively. Here, to say a little, some are only substances, some are substances of the sense fields, and some are substances of the categories. What is the meaning of this effort in order to show the distinctions in this way? "Through the door of intention" refers to the meaning of intention, in order to follow briefly and extensively. "To examine the meaning" refers to whether these substances necessarily arise together or not. "The necessary arising together of those with form has been explained," that is, through "If you want no sense faculty, the subtle atoms without sound are eight substances," and so on. "The remainder is to be spoken of" refers to the mind, mental factors, and non-associated formations. "Mind and mental factors necessarily together," does it mean all minds and all mental factors? It is not that all mental factors necessarily arise together with all minds. What is it then? Minds and mental factors do not arise separately from each other, this must be ascertained.

For your sake. Elaborating on "these are" etc., they are interdependent. For the sake of obtaining the body, if there is no mutual dependence, it cannot arise. Explanation: Without arising from mind, Mind never arises, Like the sun and its rays, They arise simultaneously. "The nature of all conditioned phenomena" etc., conditioned phenomena are the nature of arising etc., because there is no delusion. "All" refers to form, mind, and non-associated compositional factors, not unconditioned phenomena, because it is in terms of arising. Therefore, it is said, "slightly arises." "Obtaining" etc., only when shown as sentient beings can arise undoubtedly simultaneously with obtaining, not when shown as non-sentient beings. If one is not satisfied with sentient beings, there is no obtaining, what is the reason for this? Because it is common to all sentient beings, and obtaining is not common. Therefore, it is said, "for the sake of distinguishing," etc., because it slightly arises with obtaining, and slightly does not arise. Among the four types of conditioned phenomena just explained, form has already been separately explained as the aggregate of form. Mind has already been separately explained as the realm. Those associated with mental factors and those not associated have not been distinguished, therefore, in order to explain the distinction of mental factors, it is said, "five types of mental factors," etc. What are those? Therefore, it is said, "because of the difference of many grounds," etc. Those that arise in all minds are those with many grounds. Those that arise only in virtuous minds are those with many virtuous grounds. Those that arise only in afflicted minds are those with many afflicted grounds. Those that arise only in non-virtuous minds are those with many non-virtuous grounds. Those mental factors that are associated with minor afflictions are those with minor affliction grounds. "Ground" refers to the place of opportunity, opportunity refers to knowing or arising. Which takes which as an opportunity
