It is the method of grasping the life force, just as it is difficult to grasp the correct pronunciation through a simple method without grammar, grammar itself is a simple method of grasping pronunciation. If afflictions are not abandoned, what will happen? Therefore, it also mentions "afflictions make the world" etc., because it is difficult to fathom the depths and difficult to transcend, therefore samsara is an ocean. Because it is like an ocean, it is an ocean. Samsara refers to the three realms or the five paths, where beings repeatedly experience birth due to afflictions, therefore afflictions make the world wander. Therefore, "because" refers to because afflictions make the world wander in this great ocean of samsara. Therefore, "therefore" refers to for the sake of thoroughly distinguishing the dharmas, it is that meaning, it is the meaning of "because of that reason." The teacher refers to the Buddha Bhagavan. "Said" refers to teaching, even Shariputra and others cannot show the characteristics of the Dharma and thoroughly distinguish it, therefore the teacher Buddha is suitable to compose treatises, so this Abhidharma is nearly shown. Also, how can one understand "besides thoroughly distinguishing the Dharma, there is no other method to abandon afflictions"? Because thoroughly distinguishing the Dharma is the anti-

The correct distinction between the self and common characteristics of all afflictive and purified dharmas depends on the teachings. If asked, who are the authors of the Abhidharma? The one who understands wisdom is the venerable Katyayaniputra. The aggregate of consciousness is the venerable Devagupta. The Vibhajyavada is the venerable Vasumitra. The Samyak Prayana is the venerable Shariputra. The Prajnapti is the venerable Maudgalyayaniputra, and so on. Haven't you heard of them? In order to dispel the doubt of "Was the Abhidharma taught by the Bhagavan?", it is said that it was "taught in fragments". The Abhidharma was taught by the Bhagavan in fragments according to the dispositions of the disciples to be trained. When the teacher passed into nirvana and it became scripture, the venerable Katyayaniputra and others, possessing the six superknowledges, through aspiration and knowledge, considering the need for the Dharma and the nature of Dharma, collected and compiled it, dividing the fragments into aggregates and so on. Just as the monk Dharmatrata divided the Udanavarga into sections. The verses of the Udana are also recorded in some of the Sutras and Vinaya, just as the monk Dharmatrata divided them into sections, so too is the Abhidharma. The Abhidharma is entirely spoken by the Buddha, because it was collected by the Arhats, just like the Sutras and Vinaya. If it is said that it is not established, it is because it was collected by the venerable Mahakashyapa. Or because it is in accordance with the Buddha's intention, just like the Samyak Prayana. Therefore, here the dharmas are explained from six aspects: number, definition, distinction, collection, correspondence, and the difference of proof. Among them, the number is: contaminated and uncontaminated dharmas, conditioned dharmas, and they are called the five aggregates of form and so on. The definition is: feeling is experiencing, conception is the nature of apprehending signs. The distinction is: the form spoken of here is one, the form that has resistance and contact.

It is called "Gscan bcu." In summary: aggregates, realms, and sources, all are summarized by one realm. It is called this, and so on. Correspondingly possessing means: with happiness and desire, it is called correspondingly possessing, and so on. The reason for establishing is: because it is not Ishvara (自在天,Lord) etc., because it is epidemics etc. It is called this, and also, because it is said to exist at all times, because it is two, because there is an object, because there is a result. It is called this. Here it is said: the indication of number and characteristic, and likewise, the good distinction and summary, the reason for establishing is correspondingly possessing, the Dharma is proclaimed as six types. Enough with the elaboration. The main text should be composed, because in order to thoroughly distinguish the Dharma, the Abhidharma is taught. Having said that, because the Dharma is spoken, it must be determined. What are those Dharmas? It is said: contaminated and uncontaminated Dharmas. It is called this. "Contaminated" and "uncontaminated," repeating the meaning of "and" in this way is a repeated distinction. By mentioning "Dharma," it means that this is only Dharma, and it should be understood that this is not self or what belongs to self. Contaminated and uncontaminated Dharmas are only two types, because there is no other transformation. Furthermore, why are the five aggregates not mentioned? Because all Dharmas are not included in them. If that is the case, then what is the need for indicating the realms and sources? Because that would confuse the defiled and the purified, but here it is said to show that the two aspects of defilement and purification are not confused. Because purification is preceded by defilement, the contaminated is mentioned first. Here, "all Dharmas" means that there is no Dharma that can be separated from the distinction of contaminated and uncontaminated. In order to explain the Dharmas in detail, there are realms and sources, so it is said to be a brief explanation. If all speech is necessarily accompanied by certainty, and speech without certainty is without result, then here it must be certain. If this is only a brief explanation,
