It is not the word "yu," but like that, those that appear while elaborately distinguishing the realms (Sanskrit: dhātu), their elaborate distinctions have already been explained in detail, because the distinctions of number, name, one's own nature, and form are to be explained. Now this should be examined, that is, "What are these conditioned dharmas?" This appears extensively. What is the necessity of examining this? Wasn't it explicitly stated from the beginning that the Abhidharma was taught for the purpose of elaborately distinguishing the dharmas? Or, as the Ulūkas (Vaiśeṣikas) say, in order to refute the arising of a single substance with limbs, it is said that eight substances arise, in order to refute the fact that the result of causes and conditions is one. Just as it is said, "Characteristics are different," form is that which has the characteristic of being corruptible, feeling is that which has the characteristic of experiencing, because their respective characteristics are different. Although unconditioned phenomena also have different characteristics, because there is no arising, therefore conditioned phenomena are mentioned. Regarding the statement, "Therefore, there is also simultaneous arising," some say that there is simultaneous arising, but it is not necessarily simultaneous arising, for example, eye consciousness and so on, and eye and so on, because eye and so on have a basis and are the same as it. Therefore, "necessarily" is mentioned. Regarding the statement, "All these dharmas," although there are many ways, if one wants to speak concisely, it becomes five. How so? Dharmas are of two kinds, namely, form and formless. Among them, dividing the formless dharmas into four kinds, it becomes five. Again, why are five kinds taught? In order to refute wrong views, in order to refute the wrong view about form, it is said that the elements and what is derived from the elements are different. Regarding the thought that mind and mental factors are not different in meaning, it will be explained that "mind and mental factors necessarily arise together." Regarding the thought that attainment and so on do not exist, it will be explained as "non-associated formations." Regarding the thought that unconditioned phenomena are not substances, it will be explained as "cessation is only wisdom." In this way, this teaching will refute those wrong views, and one's own
