Therefore, because the subtle increase of the cause of that which arises from it exists, it is called being associated with afflictions, that is, that which arises from the past is that which arises from it. The cause of that which is to come is its cause. It is both that which arises from it and its cause, therefore it is the cause of that which arises from it. Subtle increase is the seed. Because the subtle increase of the cause of that which arises from it exists, therefore it is successively associated with the afflictions of the past and the future. Because from this there is focus on the objects of the past and the future, therefore it is the affliction that focuses on it. Its subtle increase, that is, it exists, therefore it is successively associated with the objects of the past and the future. That which is called Dharmata is the self-nature of all dharmas. In order to separately establish times such as the past, in order to separately understand their terminology, it is also said that "there are also names," etc., there is a measure of sequence. After saying "Whatever arises, that ceases," in order to show an example, it is said "Form arises, form ceases," because it is not another substance. Other arises, other ceases, because it appears to be directed towards arising, other future arises, because it appears to be directed towards ceasing, other present ceases. Time also arises, because the arising of dharma is encompassed by time. Because it is the self-nature of time, this is the concluding word, because those themselves are the permanent basis of time. Because the characteristic appears. From time also dharma arises. Why? Because it is not that the future time instants are many, it is said, "Because from the many of the collection of future instants, some instants arise, therefore it also arises from time." Incidentally, that which is called "arrival" is the examination of the past and the future. "All the remaining are associated with all," this is incidentally arrived at. "All going remaining are associated," that is, by all the going that should be abandoned by seeing all arising. "Its object has defilement remaining," this is the concluding word, that is, by the subtle increase, etc., of the object of the form of abandonment, for example, even if the great form of the great is abandoned, there are still subtle forms such as the great middle.

It is complete with those who have not abandoned the remainder. Thus, although this has abandoned and separated from the aspect of the great among the great, it is only complete with those remainders. To explain in detail by summarizing means to explain in detail by summarizing. Who are the ones? They are the Sarvastivadins and others. The sixteen are the five types of conduct in the desire realm: suffering and origination, cessation and the path, the four to be abandoned by seeing, and the fifth to be abandoned by cultivation. Similarly, up to the conduct in the formless realm, there are five types: the fifteenth and sixteenth are the unpolluted. The dharmas are sixteen. Among these dharmas, those that are to be abandoned by seeing are the nature of the four aggregates. Those that are to be abandoned by cultivation are the nature of the five aggregates. How so? Whatever feeling is associated with the subtle proliferations that are to be abandoned by seeing, that is the aggregate of feeling. Whatever perception is, that is the aggregate of perception. Whatever subtle proliferations there are, and whatever mental events such as intention that arise from the mind and are associated with them, and whatever non-associated phenomena such as feeling, etc., such as acquisition, birth, aging, abiding, and impermanence, that is the aggregate of formations. Whatever mental consciousness is associated with them, that is the aggregate of consciousness. Thus, what is to be abandoned by seeing is the nature of the four aggregates. What is to be abandoned by cultivation is the polluted dharmas other than that. How so? All internal and external forms that are polluted are the aggregate of form. Feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness other than the unpolluted and what is to be abandoned by seeing are the four aggregates. Thus, it should be known that what is to be abandoned by cultivation is the nature of the five aggregates. The mind is also sixteen, that is, they themselves, meaning the mind that operates in the desire realm, from what is to be abandoned by seeing suffering to what is to be abandoned by cultivation, the five in between, and similarly, the five that operate in the form realm and the five that operate in the formless realm, and the unpolluted.
