The object of focusing on the prior non-existence of sound, what is that object? This is the remainder of the sentence. In such a situation, the Vaibhashikas say that it is only sound, and relate the word "object" to the context. The teacher elaborates on this, saying that if this is the case, if one focuses on the prior non-existence of sound, then one only focuses on sound, and not on prior non-existence, then for someone seeking the absence of sound, it would necessarily become necessary to produce sound. If it is said that it is a future situation, then, if one focuses on the prior non-existence as belonging to the future situation, therefore, for someone who seeks the prior non-existence of sound, it would not necessarily become necessary to produce sound, if one thinks in this way, then, if it exists, how could it become a thought of non-existence? If the sound of whose prior non-existence this belongs to exists, then how could it become a thought of non-existence for someone who focuses on prior non-existence? If it is said that it does not exist now, then, if one thinks in this way, thinking that it does not exist now, then for that person, a thought of the absence of an object will arise. But that is not correct, because it is one. What is future is the same as what is now, it is not different, how could a thought of non-existence arise for that very thing that is now? Or what is its difference? Or, the difference between the future and the present, if one thinks that if there is no difference, then there is nothing, then it can only be established by arising from non-arising, that difference can only be established by arising later from not arising earlier. If it is said that it is both existent and non-existent, then, in the present situation it is existent, and in the past and future situations it is non-existent, so it is the object of two kinds of discriminating consciousness. If it is said that it is the object of discriminating consciousness of non-existence, then, the Bodhisattva elaborates, saying that the last Bodhisattva says this, whatever does not exist in the world, I know it, that is impossible.

For this reason, it has been shown that there is no consciousness that is based on the non-existent. Because the teacher has shown that this sutra has other intentions, he extensively mentioned "other arrogant ones." The intention of this sutra is that, because the samadhi is not completely pure, other arrogant ones appear during the stage of practice, that is, although there is no appearance of the divine eye, the holder of sight only exists when the premonition of the divine eye appears. This is the meaning of "holder of sight." "How could it become discrimination" means that if all objects of consciousness are established as existing, then what is it that does not exist in the world? To examine it as it is extensively said, how could it become contemplation and hesitation? If the objects of consciousness, existence and non-existence, are the same, then this discrimination is possible, otherwise it is not. "What difference is there" means that if they only see existing things as existing and not non-existing things, then what difference is there from other Bodhisattvas? If the objects of consciousness, existence and non-existence, are the same, then there is a difference. "It must be understood to be like that" means that consciousness is based on the non-existent. The example here is that one understands existing things as existing and non-existing things as non-existing. One understands existing things as existence itself.

English

Furthermore, if one thinks that cause and effect not only exist in the future, but also that birth exists, then what is effective for what? The meaning is, what cause is effective for what effect? Because the cause and the aforementioned birth, as well as the future effect, all exist. The Vaibhashikas say that only doing it now is effective. To this, the teacher elaborates, saying, what does it mean to do it now? Birth is not doing it now, because it exists, so that is why the question is asked. If it is said to be leading to another place, then, if one thinks that doing it now is the cause leading the effect to another place, then this would lead to the fault of permanence. The word 'effect' is redundant. It is merely leading from one place to another, and birth does not exist at all, so it would lead to the fault of permanence. For non-material feelings and so on, how can they be led to another place? Because the non-material itself does not abide in its own place, so this is not possible. The so-called leading is also from the unarisen to the arisen, meaning that it is thought that it can be established from the unarisen to the arisen. If it is said to be a difference in its own nature, then, if one thinks that the cause makes the self-nature of this effect different, therefore it is the difference of the effect, then here it is established from the unarisen to the arisen, meaning that it is established that the difference arises from the unarisen. If one asks, what are the three times in the place? One should say in context that everything exists. As they exist, it has already been said, meaning that what has happened in the past is the past. If there is a cause, what will happen is the future. What has happened and has not perished is the present. Saying that everything exists in this way is beneficial to the teachings. If one asks, how do they correspond to them or possess them? The meaning is, how do past and future afflictions correspond to them? How do past and future things possess them?
