The grounds are the root of non-virtue. To answer thus, whatever desire, anger, and ignorance are in the desire realm, all five of those are the root of non-virtue only, and other subtle distinctions are not. Ignorance is a synonym for bewilderment, all bewilderment that is concordant with the view of the aggregates and the view of extremes, except for bewilderment. If this is not mentioned in the sutra, how can it be said? Because it is the occasion of non-virtue, and because it shows one aspect. Therefore, it is said that whatever is non-virtuous and is also the root of non-virtue, that alone is considered to be the root of non-virtue. Because it is definitely held as that alone, it is established that the remaining subtle distinctions, such as wrong views, are not roots of non-virtue. There are three roots that are not indicated. That is to say, among these ninety-eight subtle distinctions, there are three roots that are not indicated. Saying "three" is to distinguish it from the tenets of the lower ones, showing that it is only three and not four. What are the three? That is craving, ignorance, and dullness. It is said. "That" indicates that it is not indicated, that is to say, by this word "not indicated" in "three roots that are not indicated," craving, ignorance, and dullness are distinguished. Here, although dullness is not the nature of affliction, the Vaibhashikas consider it to be a root that is not indicated. Which craving is slightly not indicated? That is, when dhyana and the formless ones that are concordant with tasting flavors arise, it is related to the immeasurable mansion and so forth, and should be appropriately connected. Which ignorance is slightly present in the form and formless realms? And the view of the aggregates and the view of extremes that are present in the desire realm, those that are concordant with these. Similarly, which wisdom is slightly not indicated, even if it arises from maturation? That which is present in the desire realm, arising from maturation, and deportment, etc.

The place of craftsmanship, and corresponding to the mind of illusion, and corresponding to the view of the aggregate of destruction and the view of holding to an extreme, exist in the realm of form and the formless realm. All wisdom corresponding to afflictions, and wisdom corresponding to ripening and so on, are unindicated. As for the term "entering into duality," the nature of duality is duality itself. Because it enters into duality, it is entering into duality. Therefore, doubt should not be the root, because it wavers through the means of entering into duality. As for the term "by the nature of pride," it is by the nature of pride that it enters into elevation, therefore conceit should not be the root. As for the term "roots are stable and abide from below," it is because the root does not agree with the Dharma. Doubt is not the root because it is unstable, and conceit is not the root because it enters into elevation, it should be said. As for the term "unindicated craving," it exists in the realm of form and the formless realm. View is also the nature of the view of the aggregate of destruction and the view of holding to an extreme that exists in those realms and in the realm of desire. Ignorance is also only corresponding to those that exist in the realm of desire, and all that exist in the realm of form and the formless realm. As for the term "meditators with strong craving, view, and pride," if someone meditates on meditation that corresponds to tasting, that is a meditator with strong craving. If someone relies on meditation and generates views such as permanence, that is a meditator with strong view. A meditator with strong pride is someone who, because of this, thinks that I have attained the four meditations, but others have not, that is a meditator with strong pride. For this, because this person has strong craving and meditates in a state of increasing craving, therefore he is a meditator with strong craving. Or, because he is both strong in craving and a meditator in mind, he is a meditator with strong craving, which is a synonym for "increasing craving." Meditators with strong view and pride
