To hold a view as supreme is to cling to a view as the most excellent. To regard purity is to cling to discipline and asceticism as the most excellent. To seek after it is the characteristic of craving. Some say that there exists a seeking after it for its own sake; that a thing exists for someone's sake is the definition of seeking after it for its own sake. Through it, one also becomes arrogant, which is the definition of becoming conceited through it. If that is the case, then craving and arrogance are both universally present. These two characteristics of craving and arrogance, since they are directed towards what is abandoned by seeing, such as the view of the aggregates as a real self, and what is abandoned by meditation, then by what should they be abandoned? By what is it abandoned, that is, by what should it be abandoned? Is it abandoned by seeing? Or is it abandoned by meditation? Those who have the aim of abandoning by seeing, they are abandoned by seeing, this is certain, and the question is posed on this basis. If it were not so, then just like the view of the aggregates as a real self, these two would both become abandoned by seeing, so what need is there to ask here? The view of the aggregates as a real self and so on are not the object of what is abandoned by seeing and meditation, nor are they not abandoned by seeing. To this, the teacher replies: Because they are directed towards what is mixed, they are abandoned by meditation. If craving and arrogance were only aimed at what is abandoned by seeing, then they would become abandoned by seeing, but that is not the case. Therefore, they are aimed at what is mixed, so they are abandoned by meditation, and the remainder are abandoned by meditation. This is to determine their characteristics. Again, this is the teacher himself refuting and explaining. What is "abandoned by seeing"? Combine "those two" with it. Why? Because they are included due to the increase of the power of views. The increase of the power of views refers to strength. Among them, the state of being included due to the increase of the power of views

Because they possess "la," these two are included due to the power of arising views. That is their nature. Therefore, these two are to be abandoned by seeing. Now listen, the Vaibhashikas assert that these two afflictions are self-characterized, not common, thus establishing their own tenet. Whoever has the view of self has attachment and pride, but because they are self-characterized afflictions, not everyone has them simultaneously, as they are focused on one aspect. Therefore, they are not pervasive. Thus, whatever is focused on what is to be abandoned by seeing is to be abandoned by seeing, and the rest are to be abandoned by cultivation, thus it is established. Sometimes it focuses on one realm of unequal division. Sometimes it focuses on both, but it is not said that sometimes it focuses on the three realms. One who dwells in the desire realm sometimes focuses on one realm of unequal division, either the form realm or the formless realm. Sometimes it focuses on both the form and formless realms. Because one does not grasp as self or belonging to self, therefore, because Brahma does not grasp as himself or belonging to himself, therefore, viewing Brahma as a sentient being is not the view of the aggregates. Because the view of extremes also arises from this, therefore viewing Brahma as permanent is also not the view of extremes. So, what view is this? It is viewing Brahma as a sentient being and the view of self. This is not a view, but a wrong knowledge, because it is a wrong discernment, it is wrong knowledge. Not all wisdom of wrong discernment is considered a view, the inverted wisdom that one's own body is "I" is the view of the aggregates, and the view of permanence that arises from this is considered the view of extremes, but others are not. If one considers "I" and clings to the basis of clinging to "I," that alone is the view of the aggregates. Viewing Great Brahma as a sentient being will also not become the basis of clinging to "I" as "I," therefore, self...
