Gapa said, "Your mind is completely afflicted, therefore, for those with desire, the ugly cause should be abandoned." Thus he spoke. That is a stream-enterer, and this verse also fully shows that he also has inversions. Therefore, the reason why the word "therefore" appears extensively is because the tenets of other schools also contradict the assertions of the Sarvastivadins, and the tenets of the Sarvastivadins also contradict the assertions of other schools. Therefore, they say that the learners have not abandoned all eight kinds of perception and mind inversions. One should also abandon what contradicts the sutras. What sutras? The Sarvastivadins quote, like this, the noble hearer possessing hearing, etc., extensively abandoning it, up to there. Those also extensively narrate the noble truths, and those eight kinds of perception and mind inversions are also abandoned by truly knowing the noble truths such as suffering, and if there is no true knowing, they cannot be abandoned, because it is to show the correct method, because it is to speak well of the method, so there is no contradiction with the sutras. They say this. This is the noble truth of suffering. This is the origin of suffering. This is the cessation of suffering. This is the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering. What is said is not only from the perspective of the path of seeing. What is it then? It is also from the perspective of the path of meditation, the path of meditation only focuses on the uncontaminated noble truths. From the difference of entering, it is from the difference of kinds, it is a synonym. For not yet obtaining the excellence that should be obtained, excellence refers to the contaminated and uncontaminated dharmas that rely on that samadhi. Obtaining it is to make it manifest. When one has not yet obtained and not yet manifested the excellence that should be obtained, thinking that I have obtained the excellence that should be obtained, this is arrogance. For someone who does not possess qualities, thinking that I possess qualities.

The so-called "thinking" refers to the arrogance of thinking that one possesses virtues when one does not possess them, with wrong views as the object, which is wrong arrogance. What is the difference between wrong arrogance and manifest arrogance? Manifest arrogance is the thought of having obtained virtues similar to those that should be obtained, so it has a basis. Wrong arrogance, on the other hand, is based on the perspective of not possessing virtues, thinking that one possesses virtues, so it has no basis. The so-called "form of arrogance" refers to the form of arrogance, that is, thinking "similar to me" and "I am inferior" are also called the form of arrogance. The so-called "three kinds of arrogance based on views" refers to, in terms of individuals, it is called based on views. Previously, the view of self as "I am" arises, and later, arrogance, excessive arrogance, and slight arrogance arise in succession. These are also arranged in order. How to understand it? The form of arrogance that thinks "I am the most superior" is the excessive arrogance based on views. The form of arrogance that thinks "similar to me" is the arrogance based on views. The form of arrogance that thinks "I am inferior" is the slight arrogance arising from the view of the aggregate of destruction. The second case is the opposite of this, arranged in order, that is, "there is someone superior to me," "there is someone equal to me," "there is someone inferior to me," these are the slight arrogance, arrogance, and excessive arrogance based on views. The third case is "there is no one superior to me," "there is no one equal to me," "there is no one inferior to me," these are the arrogance, excessive arrogance, and slight arrogance based on views in order. The so-called "completely receiving the teachings from the Vibhajyavada" means receiving the teachings from the chapter of the Vibhajyavada. What does that refer to? It is what was said before, thinking that one is more superior than the weak, or equal to oneself, etc., these are all teachings. The form of arrogance that thinks "I am the most superior," from the perspective of being inferior to oneself, is also arrogance, because the definition of arrogance is thinking that one is more superior than the weak or...
