It is like the memory arising from the knowledge experienced, the power of its arising not being transformed into other things. Some people doubt that the arising of memory does not have a cause, but is another substance, therefore, again, for example, "like sprouts, etc.," in order to explain, another example is cited, for example, the power of sprouts, etc., arising from the previously arisen rice grains, being able to generate other rice grains, not being transformed into other things. The so-called "someone" refers to the Sarvastivada school. If it is thought that "afflictions are latent," then how does the sutra itself say that afflictions are latent? In the Six-Six Sutra, it says: "This person's desire increases in pleasant feeling." Desire itself is latent, because in the situation of pleasant feeling, desire arises universally, so it is said, but it is not its seed, this is what is being thought. Because it is said to "increase," it is not merely latent, because it is said to "increase," so that is the latency of desire, but it is not desire. In that situation, the latency of desire will arise, so the seed will arise, but it has not already arisen, so there it is said that the situation in which the seed will arise, this is what is being thought. If you ask, "When does it increase?" this is a synonym for "When is there latency?" The so-called "When does it increase when sleeping?" means when does it increase when it is destroyed. Or, this is a close approximation to the cause, meaning that latency is a close approximation to the cause of desire. Desire is the cause of the latency of desire, like this, the ability to generate desire, born from desire, is called the latency of desire. That is to say, the word latency, some refer to the seed, and some refer to complete entanglement, it is said. Those are mostly greedy for equanimity, meaning that those are mostly greedy for samadhi similar to tasting. There are also those who are greedy for palaces, etc., therefore

Generally speaking, this is called "mostly." It is looking inward, because it is the nature of abiding. If so, the thought of liberation will be close. The Blessed One, in order to eliminate desire for it, therefore proclaimed such things as desire for the desire realm and desire for the realm of existence. That is desire for the realm of existence, not desire for liberation, because for liberation, it is desire for virtuous dharmas. The mere body is the realm of existence, this is the tenet of the masters. Samadhi with support means samadhi with the body. Experiencing feeling is because of being separated from desire for the desire realm, so only the body experiences feeling, not the qualities of the desire realm. Therefore, it is shown that that desire is desire for the realm of existence, not desire for the desire realm. Saying it is from the Dharma Abhidhamma means thinking that it is not said from the Sutra Pitaka. The seven afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the origin means that the view of the aggregates of existence takes the five aggregates of appropriation as its object, so it is only to be abandoned by seeing suffering. Similarly, the view of holding to extremes is also because it clings to the extremes of permanence and annihilation of the aggregates themselves. The holding to the supremacy of ethics and vows is also because it takes the aggregates themselves as the object of purification, liberation, and deliverance, so it is not to be abandoned by seeing the origin. Similarly, it should also be applied to the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing cessation. The afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the path are eight, which is added to by holding to the supremacy of ethics and vows. Because one abandons the path that purifies and believes that other ethics and vows can purify, thereby wrongly entering the wrong path, therefore it is to be abandoned by seeing the path. Whichever affliction slanders whichever truth, then seeing that truth will eliminate that affliction, just like seeing a rope and no longer mistaking it for a snake. Merely seeing the truths eliminates the afflictions, meaning it is thought that it is not eliminated through habituation. After seeing the truths, one must practice the path.
