Those who possess it also become the object of practice, the lower ones without outflows. This is possible, so it will be held that formless ones are with outflows. Saying 'with outflows' is to negate the outflowless, the lower dharmas, the outflowless ones, become the object of the virtuous realities of the formless. Saying 'lower' is to distinguish it from the higher, because those with outflows may possibly focus on the higher. After saying 'object of focus, outflowless,' it shows that it is in accordance with the aspect of subsequent knowledge. In 'accordance with the aspect of subsequent knowledge,' saying 'aspect in accordance' includes the forbearance of subsequent knowledge of suffering, etc., and those arising together with them. Saying 'all' is taking all nine categories, which are different due to distinctions such as faculties and realms. It is also not in accordance with the aspect of knowledge of dharma, because it is far away by focusing on desire, suffering, etc., themselves. It is also not the cessation of the lower ground, it has already been explained above, saying that it would be a fault to hold onto the lower ground. The outflowless abandon afflictions, for those who are in meditative absorption and formless realms, whichever outflowless one craves, it abandons afflictions as appropriate. By which outflowless one does it abandon? By the reality. The proximate is explained as the nature of special provision, saying that even by the proximate. Do the pure ones also not abandon? Saying that if afflictions are not abandoned, this is said in terms of the general wording. Is there any need to mention those with afflictions? This is thinking that it is impossible for those with afflictions to abandon afflictions. Why do the pure ones not abandon afflictions? Because they are free from desire, it is also not for those in the lower realms, this is explained extensively, because from the lower realms they are free from desire, so even from the pure ones, the afflictions of the lower realms are not abandoned, is there any need to mention those with afflictions? Because that itself is not its antidote, nor is it in its own territory, this is saying from the first dhyana to the non-conceptual, non-

Because it is neither the peak of existence, it is not its antidote. Its antidote is not its antidote. Its nature is itself. Because it is not its antidote, it cannot abandon the afflictions on its own ground. Because existence is not determined from existence. Because it is the most excellent, it is not the upper ground either, meaning that the afflictions of the upper ground cannot be abandoned by the pure of the lower ground, because the afflictions are the most excellent. It is not permissible to abandon the excellent by relying on the inferior. Therefore, even the pure cannot abandon the afflictions, so what need is there to say about the afflicted, this reason is established. The pure also, this word "also", refers to the unpolluted, which is said from the perspective of existence. Therefore, it is said because it is the antidote of the lower ground. The afflictions that act in the desire realm are abandoned by the approximation of the first dhyana. Those in the first dhyana are abandoned by the approximation of the second dhyana, and so on, until those in the realm of nothingness are abandoned by the approximation of the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. By what does one enter it, meaning by what approximation does one enter the actual practice of dhyana and the formless realms. Are they also three kinds, meaning by the differences of having reception and so on. Do they also have such feelings, meaning do the approximations also have such feelings as the first and second dhyanas have joy, the third dhyana has happiness, and the fourth dhyana has equanimity. They also have the mastery of equanimity, because they are striving to be upright, meaning that the path that arises without effort is endowed with joy and happiness, those approximations must be strived to be upright, so they arise with effort, therefore they are endowed with the mastery of equanimity.
