The term "ground" refers to the fact that afflictions in the continuum of oneself and others, as well as whatever is the pacification of suffering, exist here, therefore, it is characterized by pacification, which is nirvana. Its very nature is such, therefore, one takes refuge in all nirvana. The term "harming the support" means that harming and destroying the support of those non-learners, which is the skandha of form, therefore, it also harms those Dharma that have the support and cause Buddhahood. It is not said so in the scriptures, in detail, it is not said so in the Abhidharma scriptures, that only the Dharma of non-learners are Buddhas. Then, how is it said in the scriptures? It is said as "the Dharma that causes Buddhahood." What does it mean? It means, what are the Dharmas that cause Buddhahood? That is, the Buddha himself, and any worldly and transcendental Dharmas that can be called Buddhas, these are the Buddhas. Therefore, since the nature of the worldly five skandhas, which are the support, is not prevented from being the Buddha himself, if only the Dharma of non-learners are Buddhas, then why is it said that drawing blood from the Tathagata with an evil mind results in an immediate retribution? This is indeed unreasonable. If it is not so, in detail, if the Buddha is also only the Dharma of non-learners, and the Sangha is also only the Dharma of learners and non-learners, then the one who abides in the worldly mind is neither a Buddha nor an Arhat. Why? Because in the worldly mind, there is no Dharma of non-learners, nor is there the Dharma of learners and non-learners. If the Dharma that causes Buddhahood is only the Dharma of non-learners, and not the support, then the so-called "vows," which is the discipline of becoming a Bhikshu, is only becoming a Bhikshu, and not the support. If it is said that the support is the Buddha himself, then why does the scripture say this: Whoever takes refuge in the Buddha, takes refuge in the Dharma of non-learning that causes Buddhahood?

One should definitely hold on to those Dharmas alone. The Vaibhashikas say so, and the teacher answers with an example, how to make offerings to a Bhikshu, elaborately saying: How to make offerings to a Bhikshu is to make offerings to the precepts that make one a Bhikshu through the means of discipline, that is, not only the precepts of a Bhikshu, similarly, one who takes refuge in the Buddha also takes refuge in the Dharmas that make one an Arhat through the means of non-learning, the Buddha is not only the non-learning Dharmas of one's own continuum. Therefore, one who takes refuge in the Buddha takes refuge in the Dharmas that make one an Arhat, this statement is faultless. The so-called eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha are because they are unshared, so it is thought. The so-called nature of verbal expression refers to the time of reception. The so-called tree of the place of offering is the tree that is made the place of offering, that is, those. Therefore, because by relying on that refuge, one can be liberated from all sufferings, therefore, for all those who properly take vows, that is, for those who properly take vows such as Upasakas, it is an introductory word. The so-called cause of falling into the lower realms means that indulging in sexual misconduct out of desire is definitely the cause of falling into the lower realms, that is, one will fall into the lower realms, but not abstaining from celibacy is not so. Deciding not to do, that is, the precepts of not doing, that is, not not doing. Deciding means only deciding. Deciding not to do is deciding not to do, that is, the precepts of not doing. The precepts of the nature of not doing are the precepts of not doing, that is, not the precepts that arise from proper acceptance, is a concluding word. According to the Sautrantika school, this is only a difference in state. According to the Vaibhashika school, it is the discipline of...

It is not a branch consciousness. Those who, "though being lay practitioners," are described in detail, refer to those who, despite having received the five precepts, take wives and concubines. Do those lay practitioners also obtain vows from those women? This is synonymous with "obtained previously?" "Or not" should be understood in the context of "obtained." The Vaibhashikas say "obtained," meaning that because all things that should not be done are abandoned, a temporary vow is obtained. "Abstaining from sexual misconduct" means abstaining from practicing what should not be practiced, not that in this continuum, practicing what should be practiced is abandoned. This is a synonym. Therefore, it is extensively stated, "in this continuum." "Proscribed transgression" means a transgression that is prohibited. Engaging in actions prohibited by the Blessed One becomes a sin because it shows disrespect for the teachings of the Blessed One. The Abhidharma masters say that drinking from warm things that do not intoxicate is not afflictive. Those who uphold the Vinaya argue that drinking intoxicants is a natural transgression. The lay follower, "except for natural transgressions," means that one should not be healed by actions that are naturally transgressive, but one should be healed by proscribed transgressions; this is the intention. Even for sick Shakya people, drinking intoxicants was not allowed, so it is evident that it is a natural transgression. If it were a proscribed transgression, then it should also be allowed as medicine for sick Shakya people, but it was not allowed, so it is a natural transgression. Therefore, some say, "I am the teacher," those who say, "Shakyamuni is my teacher," should not even drink intoxicants with a blade of grass. Therefore, it is a natural transgression, so the Blessed One prohibited it; this is the intention.
