Then, is that blocked? This refers to the blocking of coming and going. Among them, to be born here from the previous world through the continuity of the intermediate state is coming. Similarly, to be born from this world to another world through the continuity of the intermediate state is going. However, is there also any one among form, etc., that is blocked? This needs to be examined. Someone says: If I do not exist at all, then it is blocked. If it is said: Because it is proclaimed without distinction, there is no need to examine, then, this refers to: If one thinks, the words of the sutra, 'Reverend Great Belly, what is life, what is warmth,' etc., until 'Vastly, consciousness approaches form and abides,' this is proclaimed without distinction. If this sutra passage is compared with 'Is it proclaimed considering the life in the desire realm and the form realm?' etc., until 'If all those do not exist, then is it blocked?' it seems that there is no particular distinction in mind. Here it is said: This will become very excessive, because it is proclaimed without distinction, without life, external warmth will also not exist. Just like this, 'Reverend Great Belly, what is life, what is internal warmth,' etc., there is no particular distinction. External forms, such as wood and walls, etc., which are not considered sentient beings, will also become dependent on consciousness, because they appear without distinction. Just like the four abodes of consciousness, appearing vastly, just as according to your view, the four abodes of consciousness are proclaimed without distinction, just as there is form in the formless realm, because four foods are proclaimed, there will also be coarse food in the form realm and the formless realm, which will become excessive. In the sutra it is said: The four foods are the cause of the existence of sentient beings, and are also beneficial to those seeking existence. What are the four? Coarse and fine morsel food; second, contact food; third, volitional food; fourth, consciousness food. It is said in this way, in order to make sentient beings exist, the four foods are proclaimed without distinction, but there is no particular distinction for practitioners in the desire realm.

Therefore, according to your view, even in the realms of form and formlessness, there should be coarse food. If it is said that "surpassing the gods who feed on coarse food" is mentioned extensively, then other schools would think that this is a special instruction directed at the general teachings. For example, in the sutras such as the Manifestation Sutra, it says, "After the body is destroyed, surpassing the gods who feed on coarse food, they are born as some mind-born gods." Because the sutra says "surpassing the gods who feed on coarse food," and it says "food of joy," that is, "Monks, when the world is destroyed, most sentient beings will be born into the ranks of the gods of clear light, and they will have beautiful forms, born of mind, with complete senses and without defects, with complete limbs, with beautiful and stable complexions, self-illuminating, walking in the sky, eating joy, possessing the food of joy, long-lived, and existing for a long time." If someone thinks that because these are mentioned in the sutras, it should not be inferred that there is coarse food. If that is the case, then it should not be inferred that there is form in the formless realm either. Why? Because there are special instructions. How to understand it? "The formless realm must arise from the realm of form," this is one special instruction in the sutra. "The peaceful liberation of the formless, having transcended all forms," this is the second special instruction. "There are non-form sentient beings," this is the third special instruction. "Completely transcending all concepts of form," this is the fourth special instruction. "If there is form," meaning that if there is form in the formless absorptions and birthplaces, then as long as there is form, one will inevitably be aware of one's own form, therefore it would not be mentioned "completely transcending all concepts of form," since it is mentioned, it indicates that there is no form there. If the phrase "the coarse form of the lower earth" is mentioned extensively, then if someone thinks that the liberation of the formless...
