The 'form born in meditative absorption' has also been extensively discussed. Combine it like this: the form born in meditative absorption. The 'ground' of the second dhyana is also within the power of the lower ground, but the power of the ground of the first dhyana cannot reach it. Similarly, because the upper ground is extremely clear, the form of the ground of the fourth dhyana cannot be reached by the power between the ground of the third dhyana. Thus, because the form born in meditative absorption cannot be reached by the power of the lower ground, what is the difference between it and the formless? Only those that are considered formless are like this extremely clear state, not those who practice in form. Therefore, there is no form there. However, the names of the two realms are consistent with their meanings: the desire realm is distinguished by the qualities of desire, and the form realm is distinguished by form. But the name of the formless realm is not consistent with its meaning. So what is it? If it is said to be arbitrary, then the names of the two realms are consistent with their meanings, but the name of the formless realm is not. What is the reason for this? In this way, after denying that there is no form in the formless realm through reasoning, scriptures are quoted to dispel doubts. In order to fully establish form, if it is said that the two words 'life and warmth' are extensively explained. If it is said that in the formless, the existence of form itself is established, then this sentence should be combined one by one. For example, if it is said that 'life and warmth' are explained in a mixed way, then the existence of form itself is established. To this, one might think that the sutra says, 'Reverend Mahakosthila, whether it is life or warmth, these dharmas are mixed, not unmixed.' Therefore, if there is life there, then there must also be warmth, and warmth is form. If you think like this, then it is established. If it is said that 'just like two reed mats, name and form depend on each other,' therefore in the formless, the existence of form itself is established. The sutra says, 'Reverend Shariputra, for example, two reed mats stand in the sky, relying on each other.'
